Position Overview

We are currently seeking a skilled Information Systems Security Engineer (ISSE) to provide support for a critical national security initiative. This role is based in the Herndon, Virginia area and involves a variety of responsibilities related to information system security engineering.

Key Responsibilities

The ISSE will be tasked with:
  • Defining and integrating information security requirements into systems and technology components through strategic security design.
  • Developing and executing security designs to ensure that hardware, operating systems, and software applications meet cyber security standards and the Security Controls Traceability Matrix (SCTM).
  • Identifying vulnerabilities and non-compliance with established Information Assurance (IA) standards, while recommending effective mitigation strategies.
  • Implementing and validating Security Technical Implementation Guide (STIG) requirements and conducting SRG assessments for all development and implementation projects.
  • Customizing and configuring Splunk applications and dashboards to enhance security monitoring.
  • Creating Security Test Procedures (STP) and conducting self-assessments to ensure compliance with required configuration guidance.
  • Performing risk analysis by reviewing ACAS, CVEs, plugins, CWEs, and collaborating with System Administrators to address identified vulnerabilities.
  • Executing continuous monitoring efforts and responding to data calls, scan requests, and security metrics reporting.
  • Validating control implementations to enforce data access and network flow restrictions aligned with continuous monitoring strategies.
  • Participating in Agile Planning Events to provide technical insights.
  • Supporting government activities and reporting to relevant authorities.
  • Assisting in security authorization activities in compliance with the Information System Certification and Accreditation Process, following the NIST Risk Management Framework (RMF) and other prescribed security engineering processes.
  • Collaborating with architects and systems developers to implement appropriate information security functionalities.
  • Applying expertise in system security engineering across various domains including risk management, intrusion detection, and security testing.
Qualifications

Required Qualifications:
  • A minimum of 10 years of experience and a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Assurance, Information Security System Engineering, or a related field from an accredited institution. A Master's degree may substitute for two years of experience, and four years of additional ISSE experience may replace a Bachelor's degree.
  • Compliance with DoD 8570 IASAE Level 3 is mandatory.
  • At least one year of experience within the Intelligence Community.
  • Three years of experience with scripting languages, Linux/RedHat, and/or Networking Appliances.
  • Possession of Information Systems Security Engineering Professional (ISSEP) and CISSP Certifications is required.
  • An active TS/SCI security clearance with the ability to obtain a polygraph is essential.
Desired Qualifications:
  • Proficient in implementing mitigation strategies and resolving security issues.
  • Experience with DISA STIG implementation and SCAP tool usage.
  • Knowledge of server administration and security threats.
  • Experience in extending applications for security, monitoring, and automation.
  • Ability to write scripts in languages such as Shell, Python, JavaScript, or PowerShell in both Linux and Windows environments.
  • Expertise in vulnerability and malware remediation.
  • Experience in analyzing vulnerabilities and determining corrective actions.

Salary Range

The typical salary range for this position is $112,000 - $179,000, based on experience and other relevant factors.
