Position Overview

Summary:

This role seeks a driven and innovative individual capable of thriving in a dynamic, interdisciplinary research environment focused on natural resources. The successful candidate will engage in various settings, including offices, laboratories, greenhouses, and field sites. Responsibilities will encompass coordinating and facilitating activities related to multiple grant-supported initiatives.

Key Responsibilities:

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Design, oversee, and execute project activities for the Forestry and Natural Resources Management Laboratory, with a focus on agroforestry research such as forest farming, alley cropping, and silvopasture.
  • Gather, analyze, and compile data for comprehensive reports and presentations.
  • Draft and refine grant proposals, project budgets, and reports to secure additional funding.
  • Assist in organizing outreach events, including workshops and field days related to forest farming.
  • Maintain meticulous records of all project-related activities.
  • Prepare and submit peer-reviewed research publications.
  • Manage laboratory resources, procure project supplies, and aid in budget management.
  • Supervise and mentor graduate and undergraduate students during project tasks.
  • Ensure adherence to safety protocols in laboratory and fieldwork settings.
  • Engage with community members, students, farmers, and researchers to foster collaborative relationships.
  • Collaborate with university staff, external researchers, and community partners to fulfill research goals.
  • Present research findings at significant conferences across the United States.
  • Create and distribute educational guides and fact sheets.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Ability to establish a work schedule and plan effectively for oneself and team members.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, and other relevant software for project coordination.
  • Willingness to work occasional weekends and extended hours as needed.
  • Ability to travel to off-campus research sites, attend conferences, and visit partner institutions.
  • Strong communication skills are essential.
  • Knowledge of field, greenhouse, and laboratory management practices.

Educational Background:

  • A degree in soil sciences, forestry, environmental science, or a closely related discipline.
  • Experience in project management and facilitation is required.
  • Preferred experience in leading small teams.

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be capable of lifting and moving items weighing up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to work in varying environmental conditions, including extreme temperatures.
