Job Summary

The position of Health Technician is established to provide support in a wide variety of basic clinical and intermediate level administrative functions. The incumbent must ensure compliance with VA regulations, T JC standards, and other regulatory agencies.

Key Responsibilities
  • Coordinates with team members to assure patients are seen and treated in a timely manner.
  • Secures patients' confidence and cooperation during procedures.
  • Explains procedures, positions patients for desired results, and cushions and shields patients as appropriate.
  • Assists medical staff with or performs diagnostic procedures used to diagnose medical conditions.
  • Adjusts, adapts, and operates specialized equipment and accessories needed for difficult procedures.
  • Responsible for all aspects of Appointment Management, including patient check-in and checkout.
  • Obtains all key information needed and initiates administrative processing of orders in a timely manner.
  • Obtains clinical information such as laboratory; radiological, and other reports from VISTA.
  • Receives and directs patients, answers routine inquiries and makes referrals.
  • Reinforces patient health and discharge education as directed by the Registered Nurse.
Work Schedule

6 12hr shifts and 1 8hr shift per pay period including Holidays/Weekends to meet organization needs.

Requirements
  • To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement.
  • Individual Occupational Requirement: Positions in this series range widely in type and include support duties to medical or health personnel such as audiologists, speech pathologists, medical officers, and optometrists.
  • GS-06 grade level: One year of specialized experience (equivalent to the GS-05 grade level in the federal service); experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities (KSA's) and other characteristics to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled, in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization.
Preferred Experience
  • Recent experience within 5 years in emergency room Telemetry Certification / Ability to identify lethal rhythm Venipuncture Certification / recent experience with blood draws / ability to draw blood on critically ill patients.
  • Experience in obtaining EKGs.
  • Experience documenting care for mental health patients / State requirements for Baker Act patients.
