Position: Nightside Technical Director

General Responsibilities:

Weigel Broadcasting Co. is seeking a Nightside Technical Director to oversee a dynamic and innovative newscast utilizing the Grass Valley Ignite automation system. The Director will manage the complete automated control room system, which includes cameras, audio, graphics, and Ignite operations. The work schedule for this role is from 3 AM to 11 AM on Thursdays, and from 3 PM to 12 AM from Friday through Monday.

Key Duties:

  • Direct newscasts using the Grass Valley Ignite automation system.
  • Simultaneously manage switcher, studio, audio, camera, and graphics systems while ensuring effective communication and direction during the newscast.
  • Code newscasts with iNews and provide solutions and alternatives to producers as needed.
  • Create graphics for news segments utilizing Adobe CC and other relevant tools.
  • Oversee studio management, including set materials and lighting.
  • Ensure proper oversight of live broadcasts, including ticker and alert systems.
  • Collaborate with Producers, Anchors, and Reporters to enhance the presentation and flow of the newscast.
  • Perform additional related tasks as assigned, such as prompter operation, editing, and videography.
  • Potentially produce promotional and creative elements.

Qualifications:

  • On-site presence is mandatory; remote work is not an option.
  • Prior experience with broadcast technology is advantageous but not essential.
  • Ability to manage a fast-paced, unscripted breaking news environment is crucial.
  • Capability to climb ladders for set light replacements is required.
  • Flexibility to work various shifts and adapt to schedule changes is necessary.
  • Effective communication skills and the ability to work independently are essential.
