Position Overview:
This role may consider candidates located near other TRC offices.

Under general guidance, this position plays a critical role in power system evaluations and analytical work. Candidates must be proficient in utilizing various power system software tools essential for conducting power system assessments.

Additionally, candidates should be adept at managing power system databases and establishing foundational cases for load flow and dynamic stability modeling.

A solid understanding of power system calculation methodologies, terminologies, and techniques is required.

Key Responsibilities:
Conduct power system evaluations and demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of power system planning, design, and operation, including but not limited to:

- Utility Networked Transmission Systems
- Electro-Magnetic Transient System Analysis

Proficient use of PSCAD and PSS/E power system software tools is necessary for performing engineering studies such as:

- Load Flow Analysis
- Overcurrent and Protective Device Coordination
- Steady State Thermal and Voltage Analysis
- Dynamic Stability Analysis
- Short-Circuit Studies
- Electrical Equipment Evaluation
- Motor Starting Study
- Harmonic Analysis
- Transient Analysis (TOV/TRV)
- Post-Transient Analysis (PV/QV)

Experience with PSCAD, PSS/E, PSLF, and ASPEN software is essential.

Develop and maintain a power system model database relevant to the scope of work using modeling software.

Prepare comprehensive reports detailing the purpose, methodology, data requirements, recommendations, and findings of power system studies.

Analyze results and formulate alternatives to identified challenges.

Perform calculations, analyses, and evaluations in accordance with project specifications.

Actively engage in client development and relationship management.

Keep management informed of project statuses relative to established expectations.


Ensure job folders are current and contain all relevant correspondence, equipment drawings, design documents, on-site data, data sheets, etc.


Project documents and system models must be securely backed up to network and external storage as per current Group guidelines.


Stay updated on departmental and company news by participating in meetings (in-person or via conference call) for the Power System Studies Group and the Company.

Demonstrate willingness and proven ability to lead, educate, and mentor fellow engineers.

Exhibit capability to navigate ambiguity.

Work independently and collaboratively while maintaining a high level of initiative and self-motivation.

Adapt standard techniques, procedures, and criteria as necessary.

Manage multiple projects simultaneously, identifying critical path items to ensure deadlines are met.

Maintain a focus on overarching goals while effectively addressing client needs, while also recognizing and analyzing details crucial to project success.

Demonstrate a willingness to learn new service offerings as client needs and market demands evolve.


Communicate pertinent information regarding clients to the appropriate Company personnel to foster and enhance the relationship between the Company and the client.


Qualifications:


A four-year Bachelor of Science or Technology degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent experience in electrical engineering is required.

A minimum of 15 years of proven experience in power system operations or planning, with a focus on analysis and studies (20+ years preferred).

A Professional Engineer License is mandatory.


Previous roles as a Transmission Planning Engineer, Transmission Engineer, Electrical Engineer, Power Systems Engineer, Power Studies Engineer, Transmission Modeling Engineer, or Systems Interconnection Engineer are beneficial.


Experience conducting Transmission Planning Studies, including TRV, TOV, Load Flow, Feasibility, Reliability and Operational, Generator Interconnection and Support, NERC TPL and MOD Compliance, and ISO/RTO System Addition Compliance.


Strong computer skills and proficiency with software such as PSCAD, PSS/E, PSLF, EMTP/ATP, ASPEN, MUST, and TARA are essential.

Experience with ISOs (independent system operators) and/or RTOs (regional transmission organizations) is advantageous.

Familiarity with utility-scale renewable energy operations, including Wind, Solar, Energy Storage, and Battery Storage, is preferred.


Knowledge of various power regions across the country and independent system operators, including PJM, MISO, NEISO, SPP, CAISO, WECC, SERC, ERCOT, and NYISO, is beneficial.

Understanding of NERC and FERC standards is required.

A proactive mindset focused on achieving results (solution-oriented attitude), along with strong written and verbal communication skills, is necessary.

Demonstrated technical capabilities to effectively fulfill job duties and responsibilities are essential.

Willingness to travel approximately 1-10% of the time, as required.

Compensation:

In accordance with local law, the salary range for this position is applicable based on the job and location associated with this requisition.

Compensation will vary based on experience, education, skill level, geographical location, and other compensable factors.

Additional Compensation:

Employees may be eligible to participate in the Company's annual Discretionary Bonus Program, contingent on Company, Business Segment, and Individual performance against Key Performance Indicators, which may vary by year and employee.
