About the Role

Amentum is seeking a highly skilled Fire Protection Engineer 6 to join our team in Englewood, CO. As a key member of our engineering team, you will be responsible for leading complex engineering assignments, overseeing research and development, and ensuring the design, manufacture, test, installation, operation, and maintenance of diverse electronic/mechanical equipment and systems.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead a team of engineers in the design, analysis, and review of complex engineering assignments.
  • Develop and implement comprehensive designs, analyses, and design reviews.
  • Generate complete design specifications for complex projects.
  • Train and mentor junior engineers on technical issues related to research, design, development, testing, and analysis.
  • Coordinate with cross-functional teams to define system specifications and requirements.
  • Establish and maintain project tracking systems and databases.
  • Develop and maintain technical documentation and system/subsystem specifications.
  • Interface with internal and external customers to ensure compliance with requirements and specifications.
  • Conduct site visits and experimental investigations to analyze engineering problems and propose solutions.
  • Verify and comply with engineering documentation standards and test procedures.
  • Prepare and deliver technical papers and perform engineering studies.
  • Support the development of technical proposals and provide comments on the technical content and level of effort.
  • May supervise a group of employees for a given project, contract, or job with overall responsibility for cost, schedule, technical, and employee performance.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Fire Protection Engineering or a related scientific field and at least 10 years of job-related experience or equivalent.
  • Must have passed the national NCEES fire protection engineering exam.
  • Experience in major aspects of industrial fire protection and life safety, and major codes and standards, including:
    • NFPA suppression system standards (water, foam, foam-water, gaseous)
    • NFPA alarm system standards (including air aspiration)
    • DOE and DOD
    • API
    • ICC
    • FM Global Data Sheets
  • Special hazards, including:
    • Electric generating plants (hydroelectric, fossil fuels)
    • Facilities handling nuclear materials
    • Battery energy storage systems
    • Flammable and combustible liquids
    • LNG and LPG
    • Explosions and deflagrations
    • Existing facility evaluations
    • Fire hazard and risk evaluations/analysis
    • Fire modeling
    • Life safety (NFPA, IBC/IFC, OSHA)
    • Performance-based design
    • Hydraulic analysis
  • Computer skills:
    • Hydraulic analysis software (HASS, HydraCALC)
  • Communication skills:
    • Must be able to communicate complex ideas clearly and in a manner readily understood by stakeholders outside the fire protection profession.
    • Must be able to write clearly and succinctly.
    • Must be able to engage stakeholders (client, authority, management) in discussions related to fire and life safety issues and clearly communicate.
    • Must be familiar with Earned Value Measurement System (EVMS).
  • Due to the nature of the work, the candidate must be a US Citizen. No dual citizens.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Familiarity with various CAD programs such as AutoCAD, Revit, HydraCAD (and HydraCalc).
Compensation and Benefits

Hiring salary range: $140K - $180K Annually (Salary to be determined by the education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant internal equity, and alignment with market data.)
