Summary:
This role is essential for the financial operations of the institution.
Classification Summary:Engages in moderately complex financial tasks related to maintaining a precise and comprehensive general ledger along with producing managerial reports and financial statements.
Classification Standard Duties:Evaluates and scrutinizes budgets and expenditures across various funding sources, ensuring adherence to fiscal accountability and reporting standards. Reviews accounting reports for accuracy; prepares and assesses budget, revenue, expense, and payroll entries, invoices, and other financial transactions. Analyzes revenue and expenditure patterns, recommends suitable budget levels, and ensures control over expenditures. Provides guidance and interprets policies to faculty, staff, and external parties such as vendors and funding representatives; clarifies billing and reporting issues, resolving related concerns. Develops financial applications; oversees the management of financial data and reports for the institution's finance and human resources systems. May participate in auditing projects as needed. May coordinate the preparation of regular and special billings and financial statements for various funding sources. May prepare accounting entries for indirect cost allocations, letters of credit, salary reallocations, loan transactions, financial aid disbursements, refunds, and repayments. May assist in developing, negotiating, and defending a unit's operating budget and consult with management on fiscal aspects of program planning and administrative actions. Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
Required Education, Experience, Certification/License, Equivalency
Required Education:
Bachelor's degree in Accounting

One (1) year of professional experience directly related to the standard duties as outlined

Bachelor's degree and successful completion of at least 12 credit hours of Accounting (ACCT) coursework and one (1) year of professional experience directly related to the standard duties as outlined

KNOWLEDGE:
Familiarity with applicable local, state, and federal regulations, as well as generally accepted accounting principles. Proficiency in computerized financial information systems. Understanding of finance, accounting, budgeting, and cost control methods.

Competence in account balancing and reconciliation.
; ABILITIES:
Capability to analyze budgetary expenditures for compliance with funding agency policies. Effective communication skills, both verbal and written. Ability to interpret financial data and prepare financial reports, statements, and projections. Competence in supervising and training staff. Ability to lead and functionally supervise team members and/or student employees.
Job Duties and Responsibilities
Accountable for monitoring financial inflows and outflows; ensures compliance with funding and reporting standards, university policies, and standard accounting practices.
Constructs routine spreadsheet applications, prepares financial data for input into accounts receivable systems, and generates reports; performs calculations related to various payments and assessments.
Coordinates the preparation of regular and special billing statements, analyses, and invoices for diverse funding sources.
Analyzes, reconciles, balances, and maintains financial records. Prepares, reviews, and processes various entries and may conduct reconciliations of moderate complexity. May oversee and monitor data processing batches.Responsible for assisting with third-party billing to sponsoring agencies, sponsored students, and general departmental accounts receivable while adhering to institutional policies and regulations.
