Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Respiratory Therapist to join our team at Newton-Wellesley Hospital. As a Respiratory Therapist, you will be responsible for providing diagnostic and therapeutic respiratory services to patients as prescribed by physicians.

Key Responsibilities
  • Interpret physicians' orders and review patient records to ensure accurate and effective care.
  • Evaluate patients and assess the appropriateness of therapy, making adjustments as needed to optimize patient outcomes.
  • Plan and administer patient care consistent with changes in patient needs and according to department policies and procedures.
  • Perform diagnostic testing and monitoring, including interpreting results and making recommendations for treatment.
  • Participate in the formulation, implementation, and modification of the respiratory care plan, working collaboratively with the healthcare team to ensure seamless care.
  • Teach patients proper breathing techniques and provide education on respiratory health and disease management.
  • Initiate mechanical ventilatory support and participate in the plan and management of ventilator-dependent patients.
  • Adjust and record ventilator parameters, maintaining surveillance to ensure patient safety and optimal outcomes.
  • Assist in planning and implementing the weaning process, working closely with the healthcare team to ensure successful transition to independent breathing.
  • Participate in patient care reviews and the Continuous Quality Improvement program, contributing to the development and implementation of best practices in respiratory care.
  • Organize and present inservice classes for the Respiratory Care Service, sharing knowledge and expertise with colleagues to enhance patient care and outcomes.
  • Participate in training respiratory care personnel and students, assisting with the implementation of new procedures and techniques.
  • Participate in review and update of department policies and procedures, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and industry standards.
  • Respond as a member of the resuscitation team, providing critical care and support during emergency situations.
  • Perform invasive procedures in compliance with department certification and safety standards, maintaining patient safety and well-being at all times.
  • Maintain patient records of respiratory assessments and treatments, entering charges for therapy performed and ensuring accurate and timely documentation.
  • Inspect and test respiratory equipment to ensure proper and safe function, identifying and reporting any issues or concerns to ensure patient safety.
Qualifications
  • Graduate of an AMA-approved Respiratory Therapy program with an Associate Degree in Science.
  • Registered by the National Board of Respiratory Care.
  • Current licensure as a Respiratory Care Practitioner in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
  • Evidence of continued education as required by the Board of Registration, Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
  • Demonstrated clinical competency equivalent to 3 years of critical care experience.
  • CPR certification required (BLS).
  • Knowledge of the special needs and behaviors of the infant, child, adolescent, adult, and older adult populations required.
