Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Respiratory Therapist to join our team at Mass General Brigham. As a Respiratory Therapist, you will be responsible for providing diagnostic and therapeutic respiratory services to patients as prescribed by physicians and in accordance with department and hospital policies and procedures.

Key Responsibilities
  • Interpret physicians' orders and review patient records to ensure accurate and timely care.
  • Evaluate patients and assess the appropriateness of therapy, making recommendations for changes as needed.
  • Plan and administer patient care consistent with changes in patient needs and according to department policies and procedures.
  • Perform diagnostic testing and monitoring, including interpreting results and making recommendations for further testing or treatment.
  • Participate in the formulation, implementation, and modification of the respiratory care plan, working collaboratively with other healthcare professionals as needed.
  • Teach patients proper breathing techniques and provide education on respiratory health and disease management.
  • Initiate mechanical ventilatory support and participate in the plan and management of ventilator-dependent patients.
  • Adjust and record ventilator parameters, maintaining surveillance and making adjustments as needed.
  • Assist in planning and implementing the weaning process, working collaboratively with other healthcare professionals as needed.
  • Participate in patient care reviews and the Continuous Quality Improvement program, identifying opportunities for improvement and implementing changes as needed.
  • Organize and present inservice classes for the Respiratory Care Service, sharing knowledge and expertise with colleagues.
  • Participate in training respiratory care personnel and students, assisting with the implementation of new procedures and techniques.
  • Participate in review and update of department policies and procedures, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and hospital standards.
  • Respond as a member of the resuscitation team, providing critical care and support during emergency situations.
  • Perform invasive procedures in compliance with department certification and safety standards, maintaining patient safety and well-being at all times.
  • Maintain patient records of respiratory assessments and treatments, entering charges for therapy performed and ensuring accurate and timely billing.
  • Inspect and test respiratory equipment to ensure proper and safe function, identifying opportunities for improvement and implementing changes as needed.
Qualifications
  • Graduate of an AMA-approved Respiratory Therapy program with an Associate Degree in Science.
  • Registered by the National Board of Respiratory Care.
  • Current licensure as a Respiratory Care Practitioner in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
  • Evidence of continued education as required by the Board of Registration, Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
  • Demonstrated clinical competency equivalent to 3 years of critical care experience.
  • CPR certification required (BLS).
  • Knowledge of the special needs and behaviors of the infant, child, adolescent, adult, and older adult populations required.
