Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Materials Engineer to join our team at the Virginia Department of Transportation. As a key member of our Structures Section, you will be responsible for conducting material reviews, inspections, and audits to ensure the quality and safety of our highway infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct material inspections and audits to ensure compliance with specifications and regulations
  • Develop and implement quality control and quality assurance procedures
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to resolve technical issues and provide expert advice
  • Manage and oversee third-party inspection contracts
  • Develop and maintain databases and records related to materials and inspections
Requirements
  • Valid driver's license
  • Proficiency in computer software applications
  • Excellent communication and technical skills
  • Experience in materials testing and inspection, structural steel fabrication, and prestressed concrete fabrication
  • Knowledge of QA inspection principles and practices
Preferred Qualifications
  • Professional engineering experience
  • Professional Engineering License
  • AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) certification
  • Prestressed Concrete Institute PCI Level II or III Technician Certification
  • Knowledge of ultrasonic testing, magnetic particle testing, or radiography associated with steel welding fabrication
