The global market for data management software is substantial, with projections indicating significant growth in the coming years. At MongoDB, we are revolutionizing industries and enabling developers to create exceptional applications that are utilized daily. As the foremost developer data platform and the first database provider to go public in over two decades, we invite you to join our team and be part of groundbreaking innovation and creativity.
The Technical Program Management team within MongoDB's R&D Engineering is tasked with designing, executing, and enhancing vital process frameworks that empower engineering teams to excel in making MongoDB the premier Developer Data Platform. As custodians of the processes and tools that optimize product development cycles from conception to launch, Technical Program Managers (TPMs) also oversee communication, timelines, scope, and effort across various projects and team operations.
In the role of Technical Program Manager, you will collaborate with key stakeholders from Engineering, Product, Product Design, Marketing, and Analytics to conduct data-driven experiments and deliver features for MongoDB Atlas. Atlas is a comprehensive suite of data services centered around a cloud database, aimed at expediting and simplifying the development process with data. The Atlas team is a diverse product development group based in a collaborative environment, with members and partners across multiple regions. As this team expands, you will leverage existing tools such as JIRA, Google Docs, and automation solutions to enhance team operations.
The ideal candidate will possess:
- Extensive experience in managing technical projects and collaborating with full-stack development teams utilizing various project management methodologies.
- A minimum of 5 years of experience in a technical role and/or in project or program management.
- A strong sense of user empathy, with the ability to balance product objectives and engineering limitations to create impactful experiences.
- Proficiency in understanding cloud infrastructure and experimentation platforms, with the ability to identify technical interfaces between teams.
- Expertise in utilizing data for informed decision-making and becoming a trusted resource on experimentation and metrics.
- A strategic mindset regarding software engineering processes while managing the day-to-day operations of the team.
- A drive to innovate in areas where automation can enhance efficiency, with programming skills in tools like JIRA and Google Docs being advantageous.
- Strong communication skills to engage effectively with a diverse range of engineers and stakeholders.
- Exceptional organizational skills, capable of managing extensive project data and task tracking.
- Knowledge of agile methodologies and experience in implementing project management best practices.
- A keen sense of priority and urgency to deliver features and experiments that yield valuable insights about users.
- Experience with project tracking software (e.g., JIRA, Rally, MS Project, Trello).
- A genuine interest in deepening knowledge about MongoDB.
- Implement and refine the processes and tools that shape the daily operations of engineering teams.
- Facilitate coordination between product development teams and internal stakeholders to prioritize the team's backlog and plan the release roadmap.
- Identify potential risks to project delivery and develop mitigation strategies.
- Manage the data concerning the health of each team's project and ticket backlog.
- Recognize when a project/team requires additional management and when to operationalize and establish a process framework.
- Advocate for the adoption of experimentation methodologies, fostering a culture of evidence-based decision-making.
- Encourage continuous improvement by conducting retrospectives to identify growth opportunities and learnings across teams.
- Discern patterns within complex information and take appropriate action.
- Expand expertise into new domains as needed.
- Within 3 months, you will gain a comprehensive understanding of MongoDB's R&D platform and be fully acclimated to engineering development processes.
- By 6 months, you will actively collaborate with key stakeholders and effectively execute established processes.
- After 9 months, you will have identified opportunities for enhancing team operations, built consensus for improvements, and developed an implementation plan for these changes.
- A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, Statistics, or related fields, or equivalent practical experience.
- Demonstrated technical proficiency and strong analytical capabilities with a track record of success.
- 5+ years of industry experience as a program or engineering manager.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills, adaptable to various audiences.
At MongoDB, we are dedicated to fostering a supportive and enriching culture for all employees. We prioritize employee wellbeing and offer a range of benefits to support personal and professional growth.
