We are looking for a qualified candidate to achieve Waste Management goals by adhering to federal and state regulations, as well as Department of Energy (DOE) guidelines concerning the management and characterization of waste materials (both radiological and hazardous). This role ensures the safe storage and transportation of waste to authorized treatment, storage, and disposal facilities.

Qualifications:

  • BA/BS degree in Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related technical field, accompanied by eight (8) years of relevant experience or a combination of education and experience, including four (4) years in a nuclear setting.
  • At least three (3) years of supervisory experience.

Licenses/Certifications:

  • Valid driver's license is required.

Preferred Skills:

  • Familiarity with DOE regulations related to hazardous and industrial waste.
  • Ability to establish and maintain professional relationships with DOE and state representatives.
  • Knowledge of Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA) and radiological waste management.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensure a safe and healthy work environment by adhering to established safety protocols and procedures.
  • Implement and uphold standards outlined in the Company Code of Conduct and DOE directives.
  • Oversee staff involved in Waste Processing, Packaging, Transportation, and Waste Generator Services.
  • Guarantee compliance with Waste Management Program requirements.
  • Engage with regulatory bodies such as DOE, DOT, and EPA as necessary.
  • Provide technical guidance in developing and maintaining Waste Management procedures.
  • Facilitate the characterization, sampling, processing, and preparation of waste for transportation.
  • Review and authorize waste documentation prior to submission to regulatory agencies.
  • Ensure waste characterization aligns with disposal and acceptance criteria.
  • Comply with all environmental regulations governing waste management.

Essential Functions:

  • Identify and resolve complex issues while managing projects to meet deadlines and budget constraints.
  • Establish priorities and work schedules to control costs effectively.
  • Direct the work of others and mentor team members.
  • Develop and execute strategic plans to achieve organizational objectives.
  • Interface with internal and external stakeholders, including senior management and regulatory officials.

Supervisory Duties:

  • Recruit, select, and train department staff while maintaining a safe work environment.
  • Communicate job expectations and monitor employee performance.
  • Set departmental goals based on business and operational data.
  • Manage financial objectives through budget preparation and expenditure analysis.
