Position Overview:
ReNuke Services is in search of a Senior Nuclear Electrical Engineer to contribute expertise at our client’s facility in Southport.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Define the scope, technical foundation, installation, and testing criteria for engineering design modifications, encompassing AC power systems, DC power systems, large AC motors, transformers, switchgear, motor control centers, voltage regulators, and breakers.
Investigate engineering and design challenges, assess alternatives, and present informed recommendations to address issues.
  • Provide continuous support for assigned engineering design modifications through work order evaluations, corrective action program tasks, and field installation assistance.
  • Create or update design specifications or technical requirement documents to facilitate engineering design modifications.
  • Generate or amend complex engineering calculations influenced by engineering design modifications.
  • Develop safety assessments and evaluations that underpin engineering design modifications.
  • Update site design basis documents, design schematics, and regulatory documents affected by engineering design modifications.
We are seeking an Electrical Design Engineer with expertise in Electrical and/or Instrumentation & Control (I&C). The selected candidate will engage in engineering tasks for electrical and I&C projects within the engineering team. Some responsibilities may also encompass digital and software-related elements.

Current qualifications at a nuclear utility as a Modification Engineer under an INPO Accredited Program and familiarity with Nuclear Asset Suite (NAS) for design and work order evaluations are highly advantageous.

Experience in the Operations department is also considered beneficial. Candidates will need to obtain qualifications for both Modification Engineer and Design Verification Engineer before working autonomously.

The selected individual will serve as the Lead Technical Engineer and/or Responsible Engineer for designated projects while also providing support on additional projects.

Current projects that the selected individual may lead or assist with include:

Replacement of 4kV Non-Segregated Bus with Cable Bus, Installation of Safety Related Alternate Battery Chargers, Motor Operated Valve Replacements, Nuclear Security System Upgrades, Transmission Line Panel Upgrades, 4kV to 480V Transformer Replacements, and HVAC System Upgrades.

Candidates will be required to qualify in necessary duty areas to independently act as a Responsible Engineer for modifications, with prior qualifications and product demonstrations from other utilities being an acceptable alternative.

Lastly, the individual is expected to demonstrate sound technical judgment and provide guidance to engineering and implementation teams.

Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) or a comparable BS degree with relevant experience.
  • 15+ years of engineering experience in the nuclear sector, specifically in Electrical/I&C Design Modification preparation.
  • Ability to secure and maintain unescorted access to a nuclear facility, including General Employee Training, Radiation Worker Training, Security Clearance checks, and compliance with the site’s Fitness for Duty Program.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills in a professional setting.
  • Proficient in researching engineering and design issues, evaluating alternatives, making sound recommendations, and preparing and presenting findings.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively within a team environment.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Registration/Licensure as a Professional Engineer.
  • Experience in Electrical/I&C/Digital engineering.
  • Familiarity with 10CFR50.59 regarding modifications to a nuclear facility.
  • Working knowledge of ETAP software.
  • Understanding of nuclear industry cybersecurity control practices.
  • Experience with standard design processes in the nuclear industry.
