The Duke Energy Nuclear Fleet Corporate Design Engineering (CDE) department is the Design Authority for each of Duke Energy’s six nuclear sites. CDE is responsible for the execution of a fleet portfolio that includes design solutions supporting risk reduction, equipment obsolescence, and plant modernization.

The Brunswick (BNP) Nuclear Plant Corporate Design Electrical Engineering team manages the capital engineering change (EC) portfolio at the BNP Unit 1 and 2 nuclear site. The team collaborates with other CDE and cross functional plant staff to ensure that high quality design solutions are delivered to meet site needs and milestone requirements.

Responsibilities
• Develop the scope, technical basis, installation and testing requirements for engineering design changes, which include but are not limited to AC power systems, DC power systems, Large AC motors, Transformers, Switchgear, Motor Control Centers, Voltage Regulators, Breakers, etc.
• Research engineering and design issues, evaluate alternatives, determine and present recommendations to resolve issues.
• Provide ongoing support of assigned engineering design changes through work order reviews, corrective action program assignments, and field installation support activities.
• Develop or revise design specifications or technical requirement documents to support engineering design changes.
• Develop or revise complex engineering calculations impacted by engineering design changes.
• Develop safety screens and evaluations that support engineering design changes.
• Revise site design basis documents, design drawings, and regulatory documents impacted by engineering design changes.

Requesting an Electrical Design Engineer SME with Electrical and/or Instrumentation & Control (I&C) experience for the Brunswick Nuclear Plant in Southport, NC. The individual will perform engineering work for electrical and I&C projects within the engineering organization. Some engineering work may also include digital and software focused items. Current qualification at a nuclear utility as a Modification Engineer under an INPO Accredited Program and knowledge of Nuclear Asset Suite (NAS) for design and work order reviews is highly desirable. Experience in Operations department is considered a desirable trait as well. Individual will be required to obtain qualifications for a Modification Engineer and Design Verification Engineer prior to working independently. Selected individual will act as the Lead Technical and/or Responsible Engineer for assigned projects and in a support capacity on other projects.

Current projects the selected individual is likely to lead or support include: Replacement of 4kV Non-Segregated Bus with Cable Bus, Installation of Safety Related Alternate Battery Chargers, Motor Operated Valve Replacements, Nuclear Security System Upgrades, Transmission Line Panel Upgrades, 4kV to 480V Transformer Replacements, and HVAC System Upgrades. Individual will be required to qualify in the necessary duty areas to act independently as a Responsible Engineer for modifications within Duke Energy with past qualifications and product demonstration from other utilities as an acceptable alternative. Lastly, the individual will be expected to exhibit sound technical judgment and provide guidance to the engineering and implementation teams.

Basic Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) or equivalent BS degree with relevant work experience
• 15+ years engineering experience in the nuclear industry with experience in Electrical / I&C Design Modification preparation
• Ability to obtain and maintain unescorted access to a nuclear facility (General Employee Training, Radiation Worker Training, Security Clearance checks and subject to the site’s Fitness for Duty Program)
• Strong oral / written communication skills within a professional environment
• Skilled in the practices of researching engineering and design issues, evaluating alternatives, making sound recommendations and preparing and presenting recommendations.
• Must be able to work in a team environment

Preferred Qualifications:
• Registration/Licensure as a Professional Engineer
• Electrical / I&C / Digital engineering experience at Brunswick Nuclear Plant
• Experience in the 10CFR50.59 with respect to designing modifications to a nuclear facility
• Working level knowledge of ETAP software program.
• Working level knowledge of nuclear industry cyber security control practices
• Experience with nuclear industry standard design process
