GENERAL SUMMARY:

Under general supervision and in accordance with established protocols, performs diagnostic MRI examinations utilizing appropriate imaging technology and methodologies. Adheres to Corewell Health's philosophy of Patient and Family Centered Care consistently.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
  • Confirms patient identity and physician directives.
  • Educates patients and their families about the procedure prior to each examination.
  • Obtains a comprehensive patient history and documents it in the medical record.
  • Ensures MRI safety documentation is completed by the patient or their representative and reviews this information with them before entering the MRI scanning area.
  • Operates MR imaging equipment safely and proficiently.
  • Administers IVs as necessary for contrast media injections.
  • Conducts procedures in accordance with MRI protocols.
  • Performs MRI and related patient care tasks using age-appropriate techniques tailored to the patient's physical capabilities and limitations.
  • Monitors patients throughout the examination to ensure their safety within the MRI Suite.
  • Communicates STAT requests to the radiologist promptly.
  • Maintains cleanliness and sanitation of equipment between patients and ensures the examination room is stocked with necessary supplies.
  • Utilizes effective communication with medical staff, management, and technical support teams.
  • Efficiently navigates hospital computer systems for order verification, schedule viewing, and information transmission to PACS.
  • Conducts quality MR scans after confirming patient identity and physician orders.

STANDARD QUALIFICATIONS:

Education / Training:
  • Graduate of a Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT) Accredited Radiography program.

Work Experience:
  • 1-3 years of clinical experience beyond the staff radiographer level is preferred.

Certification, Licensure, Registration:
  • ARRT Registered (MR) and/or completion of an Accredited Radiology program - must be registry eligible to take the ARRT(MR) certification within one year of hire.
  • ARRT Registered and/or Graduate of an Approved MRI Technologist Program by the American Registry of Magnetic Resonance Imaging Technologist (ARMRIT).
  • Must maintain good standing with the ARRT and/or ARMRIT. Technologists working in MRI modality prior to 2008 are exempt from additional MRI certification.

Other Qualifications:
  • Basic Life Support Certification for Healthcare Providers at hire through the American Heart Association and American Red Cross.
