Northern Manhattan Improvement Corporation (NMIC) is a community-based, not-for-profit settlement house that serves as a catalyst for positive change in the lives of the people in our community.

Our mission is to empower individuals and families to secure and prosperous futures through comprehensive crisis intervention services and holistic programs designed to transition them to self-sufficiency.

The Government Grant Development Officer will play a pivotal role in securing government funding to support NMIC's programs and strategic initiatives.

This role involves project management of the entire proposal development process, ensuring all components are effectively coordinated and deadlines are consistently met.

The GGDO will collaborate closely with program staff to draft, edit, and finalize high-quality submissions, inclusive of all attachments.

Additionally, the GGDO will conduct thorough research on prospective and current government funders, ensuring that NMIC accesses public funding opportunities in a timely manner.

This position offers a hybrid work environment and requires close collaboration with senior management, program directors, finance staff, and the development team.

The primary supervisor is the Development Director, and the position will receive functional matrix supervision from the Director of Finance for technical finance issues.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead the development and submission of government grant proposals, including organizing and preparing materials for proposals and monitoring grant applications.
  • Draft grant proposal narratives and compile and format all attachments (including program scopes and budgets) with material from, and in collaboration with, the development, program, and finance teams to finalize and submit grant applications.
  • Project-manage the entire proposal development process, ensuring timely coordination of all components to meet tight and competing deadlines.
  • Monitor and maintain a master calendar for government grants and prospects, ensuring deadlines, files, and correspondence are up-to-date.
  • Actively research and identify new grant opportunities on public government websites.
  • Facilitate the timely production and submission of high-quality reports to select funding agencies, including reviewing, editing, and writing as needed.
  • Maintain a comprehensive library of grant-related support documents.
  • Ensure acknowledgement of government funders via the website, e-newsletter, and social media platforms.
Requirements:
  • Excellent writing skills.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and strong organizational skills for copy editing, proposal submission, and grant management.
  • Familiarity with grant management, federal and state regulations, and best practices desired.
  • Knowledge of the proposal process for government funders.
  • Ability to adapt and work in a very flexible, fluid, and evolving environment.
  • Basic comfort with Excel.
