The ideal candidate should have a solid grasp of payroll practices and regulations, experience with payroll software, and a commitment to maintaining confidentiality and data integrity.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Payroll Management:
- Guarantee the timely and accurate execution of payroll for assigned employees.
- Precisely compute wages, overtime, bonuses, commissions, and deductions.
- Maintain accurate records of employee payroll information, including new hires, terminations, leaves, and pay adjustments.
- Examine and validate timesheets, attendance logs, and related documents for correctness.
- Prepare and distribute paychecks, direct deposits, and payroll statements to employees.
- Address any payroll discrepancies or issues promptly and efficiently.
2. Compliance and Reporting:
- Stay informed about federal, state, and local payroll tax laws to ensure compliance.
- Prepare and file necessary payroll tax reports and payments as required.
- Respond to payroll-related inquiries or audits from regulatory bodies.
- Work with HR to maintain accurate employee records, including tax forms and benefit deductions.
- Generate payroll reports for management analysis and review.
3. Payroll Systems and Technology:
- Effectively utilize payroll software systems for all payroll functions.
- Keep abreast of industry advancements and best practices in payroll technology.
- Participate in system upgrades and enhancements as needed.
- Quickly troubleshoot and resolve any payroll system issues.
4. Collaboration:
- Work closely with HR, Finance, and other departments to improve payroll processes and resolve issues.
- Provide excellent service to employees regarding payroll inquiries, maintaining professionalism and confidentiality.
- Support year-end payroll processes, including tax document generation and reporting.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field is preferred.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in payroll or a similar role.
- In-depth knowledge of payroll operations, regulations, and compliance.
- Proficient in payroll software systems; experience with platforms like Paychex, ADP, or Workday is advantageous.
- Exceptional attention to detail and strong analytical skills.
- Excellent organizational and time management abilities to meet deadlines.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills to convey complex payroll information clearly.
- High level of confidentiality and discretion in handling sensitive employee data.
- Familiarity with payroll tax filings and reporting requirements.
- Able to work independently and collaboratively, demonstrating effective problem-solving skills.
