About the Role

Brodson Construction Inc. is seeking a seasoned Director of Commercial Construction to lead our team in delivering exceptional commercial projects across various industries. As a key member of our leadership team, you will be responsible for overseeing the profitable execution of projects, ensuring safe, on-time, and on-budget completion, and maintaining strong relationships with clients and stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide managerial leadership to project managers in the commercial division, focusing on talent development and performance improvement.
  • Recruit, train, and coach project managers to match talent to project scope, ensuring effective project execution.
  • Support project management in tackling project complexities, delivering excellent service, and achieving project completion.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with clients, vendors, and stakeholders to ensure smooth operations and satisfaction.
  • Deliver superior service to clients and vendors, overseeing general relationship management and development across all projects.
  • Provide oversight in managing all necessary resources throughout the project lifecycle, ensuring owner expectations, schedules, and profitability objectives are met.
  • Support preconstruction in acquiring and defining pipeline projects.
  • Meet financial targets for the commercial construction division, managing labor and general conditions costs on all projects.
  • Ensure projects are closed out efficiently and to the highest standards, inclusive of permit receipt, client handover, and punch list completion.
  • Analyze operational data to identify trends, resolve issues, and implement improvements in processes and efficiency.
  • Ensure the day-to-day operations of projects are transitioned effectively to project managers and superintendents from preconstruction.
  • Attend owner and project meetings, maintain continuous client contact, and communicate relevant information to the project team.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture, or a related field.
  • 15+ years of experience in the construction industry, particularly in high-end restaurant, retail, and commercial office projects.
  • Ability to read, understand, and interpret contract documents, drawings, specifications, scopes of work, and project schedules.
  • Thorough knowledge of construction cost, scheduling, estimating, purchasing, and engineering principles and techniques, as well as accounting principles.
  • Capacity to motivate, lead, and boost morale of the teams.
  • Effective time management and logical decision-making ability.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills in English.
  • Software knowledge - Microsoft Office, Microsoft Project, Bluebeam/Adobe Acrobat, Procore, and Sage 300 PJ.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail, with a strong command of all applicable contract and legal provisions.
  • Excellent business judgment, consistently achieving profitability objectives and strong project close-outs with client and subcontractor relationships in good standing.
  • Strong sense of urgency and initiative, able to quickly study and react to complex issues.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to confidently and decisively take action.
  • Team leader with excellent communication skills, able to handle and resolve conflicts fairly and effectively.
  • Demonstrated leadership and interpersonal skills.
  • Good client management skills.
  • Travel may be up to 30%.
  • Ability to type, answer phones, lift up to 40 lbs., sit for extended periods, drive to job sites, and conduct walk-throughs on active job sites.
