Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Career Development Director to join our team at Career Systems. The successful candidate will be responsible for leading the Career Development Services department, which includes academic education, career technical training, work-based learning, counseling, and career transition services.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist students in adjusting to Center life to enhance student retention by providing supervision, behavior modification, counseling, and acting as a positive role model and mentor.
  • Provide and ensure staff assigned to their supervision provide services that meet the needs of students in a timely professional manner with the highest degree of customer service in mind.
  • Adhere to all Department of Labor and Company policies and procedures.
  • Maintain confidentiality but report significant events or situations immediately through approved channels to ensure the health, safety, and well-being of students and staff.
  • Ensure that required reporting occurs and that students receive emergency services as needed.
  • Facilitate prompt and appropriate assistance to students in the event of injury, illness, or emotional trauma.
  • Ensure equipment and assigned work areas are clean and maintained in accordance with Center, Company, and Department of Labor standards.
  • Supervise assigned staff, review, and approve requests for time off, and may be required to arrange substitute staff coverage.
  • Conduct interviews of perspective new employees and make recommendations for, or against hire, based on state and federal laws, and company policy.
  • Conduct formal performance evaluations for staff under supervision in a timely manner and provide regular and ongoing performance feedback.
  • Responsible for the performance management of all employees under supervision, including issuing Behavior Modification Agreements in conjunction with Human Resources and following the chain of command in accordance with CSD's code of staff conduct.
  • Responsible for ensuring that assigned staff under supervision maintain an orderly, safe, clean, and healthy living environment within areas of responsibility.
  • Assist in preparing staff schedule and weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual reports as assigned.
  • May be assigned to supervise an activity, a special event (either on or off center), or in other program areas as assigned on a temporary, periodic, or regular basis.
  • Responsible for initiating and reviewing student records, student files, case notes, forms, and reports, ensuring they are complete, timely, and in compliance with Department of Labor and company policies.
  • Supervise Career Development staff, which may include CPP, Academics, CTT, Career Counseling, WBL, and CTS departments.
  • Be aware and familiar with the National Job Corps Office priorities, Regional Office priorities, and company initiatives, ensuring the incorporation into the Center goals.
  • Ensure that the Center maintains the highest level of data integrity in all reporting of Center statistics and metrics.
  • Ensure full implementation of the Quality Assurance Plan & Procedures as appropriate.
  • Accountable for outcomes on student satisfaction surveys.
  • Coordinate and provide direction for National Training Contractor regional staff, and off-Center training providers, providing directions to NTC staff in compliance with MOU.
  • Coordinate the development of the Center's annual CTST Plan.
  • Plan, prepare, and responsible for operating within approved budgets.
  • Attend weekly management meetings, conduct department meetings at least monthly, to communicate Center, national, regional, and corporate priorities.

  • Establish and maintain close communication with the Center Director and administrative staff.

  • Meet with staff regularly as needed at all remote sites.
  • Evaluate and seek trends in relation to labor market information to review vocational training offerings. Supervise trade changes and complete trade change requests.
  • Develop Comprehensive Plan on a yearly basis.
  • Prepare Center Evaluation Information Report (CEIR).
  • Assist in the coordination of linkages.
  • Attend WIOA and Local Board meetings as assigned.
  • Provide orientation regarding Job Corps to external resources.
  • Keep staff informed regarding changes in the program.
  • Train and cross-train staff.
  • Visit agencies, businesses, and other job-related resources.
  • Coordinate the Workforce Council in conjunction with other center staff. Attend training seminars and conferences to keep abreast of changes and trends.
  • Promote activities geared towards employability.
  • Ensure case documentation is up-to-date and available for Department of Labor and Corporate audits.
  • Ensure staff complete Evaluations of Student Program (ESP's) in a timely manner for students in assigned areas and that they participate in evaluation panels. Provide other behavior and progress assessments as requested.
  • Develop and update the Center's Career Development Plan and other Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Oversite of the Center Disability Program.
  • Responsible for insuring that departmental equal employment and affirmative action goals and objective are met.
  • Attend required staff training sessions.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
  • Minimum:
    • Bachelor's degree in Education or a closely related field. Must have 15 semester hours of undergraduate coursework in Education.
    • Two years of counseling experience, one of which was in a supervisory capacity.
  • Preferred:
    • Master's degree in Education or a closely related field. State teaching credential. Previous work experience in education and training or Job Corps. Knowledge of special education law.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Sound knowledge of counseling and supervisory techniques.
  • Must be able to effectively communicate with culturally disadvantaged and minority youth.
  • Must possess a valid state driver's license.
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Must obtain and maintain valid CPR/FA certification.
  • Good organizational skills.
  • Ability to inspire and motivate staff.
  • Employment counseling experience.
