Behavioral Health Specialist

Centers for Independence is seeking a skilled Behavioral Health Tech to join our team. As a Behavioral Health Tech, you will play a vital role in providing direct care to adults with severe and persistent mental illness.
Job SummaryThis is a technical position that involves assisting consumers in learning independent living skills, such as laundry, housekeeping, cooking, time and money management. You will also be responsible for monitoring consumer medication adherence, reporting any changes in client behavior and functioning, and ensuring that residents maintain acceptable standards of personal hygiene.
Responsibilities- Assist consumers in learning independent living skills, as defined in the resident's Individual Service Plan.
- Participate in ensuring that nutritious community meals are planned, prepared, and served within the home.
- Monitor consumer medication adherence as directed by their physician.
- Report any changes in client behavior and functioning to the Residential Clinical Supervisor, WHCG RN, or physician.
- Ensure that residents maintain acceptable standards of personal hygiene.
- Ensure that residents leave for their day program, job, or school appropriately groomed and facilitate transportation as necessary.
- Ensure that the house is clean at all times and complies with DHS 83 CBRF regulations.
- Perform room, water, temperature, or any other daily weekly monitoring assigned by the Residential Operations Supervisor.
- Practice emergency evacuation procedures and perform fire alarm system checks with residents and document these drills.
- Document residents' daily behavior and routine in the resident daily log consistent with their Individualized Service Plan goals.
- Attend and participate in staff meetings, in-service training seminars, and conferences as required.
- Attend required annual CBRF trainings and successfully pass competency testing.
- Occasional travel may be required for this position, which may involve transporting clients to various destinations.
- Reports for work on time and adheres to WHCG Attendance Policy.
- Understands and adheres to established policies and procedures and DHS 83 rules.
- High School Diploma/GED is required.
- Minimum of 1 year's experience working with adults with severe and persistent mental illness is highly desirable.
- Must be able to function with minimum supervision.
- Professional workplace appearance and conduct; friendliness and courtesy to consumers, coworkers, and vendors.
- Effectively communicates and develops good working relationships with co-workers.
- Reliability in reporting to work regularly and on time.
- Must possess good communication, listening, writing, and organizational skills.
- Must complete CBRF training program as outlined by DHS 83.
- Must be able to use appliances such as stove, microwave, washer/dryer, etc.
- Must be able to read the label on medicine bottles and understand the directions on the labels.
- Must be able to clean up bloody/body fluid spills in accordance with OSHA and agency policies.
- Must be able to evacuate residents in two minutes or less and assist residents in evacuation as dictated by DHS 83.
- Motor vehicle record acceptable to program and/or contractual requirements.
- A valid Wisconsin driver's license, and automobile insurance with minimum limits of $50,000/$100,000 bodily injury and $10,000 property damage.
- Access to a personal vehicle.

- Work is performed largely in a group home setting. Group homes are open 24 hours per day, 7 days a week.
- Hours of work will vary and will be set in conjunction with the designated supervisor.
- Must be able to communicate complex thoughts and instructions both in writing and verbally.
- This position is responsible for the supervision and safety of consumers in both normal program settings as well as a variety of settings in the community.
- Ability to perform well in a fast-paced work environment.
- On occasion, must be able to push/pull/lift/move objects weighing at least 50 pounds.
- This position may work in a variety of indoor and outdoor work environments, which may include various outdoor weather conditions, loud noises, and fluctuating temperatures.
