Overview

The Pediatric Speech Language Pathologist is responsible for evaluating and treating children with various communication and swallowing disorders. This role involves the development and execution of tailored care plans that utilize evidence-based practices, ensuring that both patients and their families are educated on treatment strategies and self-management techniques to enhance recovery outcomes.

This position is crucial in monitoring and assessing the effectiveness of treatment plans, requiring guidance and mentorship to fulfill essential job responsibilities.


Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive assessments of patients experiencing speech, language, cognitive, and swallowing challenges to evaluate their communication and oral motor capabilities.
  • Assist in creating and implementing individualized, evidence-based treatment strategies that align with patient assessments and specific goals.
  • Provide education to patients and their families regarding treatment protocols, home exercises, and self-care practices to support recovery.
  • Track and document patient progress, treatment results, and responses to interventions, making necessary adjustments to treatment plans.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to formulate and execute discharge plans and recommendations for ongoing care, with some guidance from colleagues.
  • Communicate patient progress and current status to relevant parties, including family members and healthcare professionals.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned or required.

Qualifications

EDUCATION: Required: Master's degree in Speech Pathology

EXPERIENCE: Not specified

LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION: Required:

Certificate of Clinical Competence from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association or eligibility through a Clinical Fellowship Year. Licensed by the North Carolina Board for Speech Pathologists and Audiologists during the Supervised Experience Year. BLS (CPR) certification from the American Red Cross or AHA Healthcare Provider.
