Job Overview

Position Summary:
The Cybersecurity Operations Specialist is tasked with maintaining the necessary operational security framework for an information system. This role requires close collaboration with the Information System Security Manager (ISSM) and Information Security Officer (ISO). The specialist must possess in-depth knowledge and skills to oversee the security components of an information system, often taking charge of daily security operations.

This position encompasses various responsibilities, including physical and environmental safeguards, personnel security, incident response, and security training initiatives. The specialist will work in conjunction with the ISSM and ISO to monitor the information system(s) and its operational environment, which includes the development and revision of authorization documentation and the implementation of configuration management across authorization boundaries. Assessing the security implications of changes and providing recommendations to the ISSM is also a key function.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist the ISSM in fulfilling their responsibilities.
  • Prepare, review, and update security authorization packages.
  • Ensure established procedures are in place for the clearing, sanitizing, and destruction of various hardware and media types.
  • Notify the ISSM of any changes that may impact the authorization status of the information system(s).
  • Conduct regular reviews of information systems to ensure adherence to the security authorization package.
  • Coordinate any alterations to hardware, software, or firmware with the ISSM and Authorizing Official/Designated Approving Authority prior to implementation.
  • Oversee system recovery processes to ensure that security features and protocols are restored and functioning correctly.
  • Maintain current and accessible IS security documentation for authorized personnel.
  • Ensure that audit records are collected, reviewed, and documented, including any anomalies.
  • Participate in required technical and security training relevant to assigned duties.
  • Execute the cybersecurity component of self-inspections, providing security coordination and reviewing all system assessment plans.
  • Identify cybersecurity vulnerabilities and assist in implementing necessary countermeasures.
  • Prepare reports detailing the status of security measures applied to computer systems.
  • Perform ISSO duties in support of both internal and external clients.
  • Conduct security impact analysis activities and report findings to the ISSM regarding all configuration management changes affecting authorization boundaries.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field.
  • 2-5 years of experience in related roles, particularly in developing Risk Management Framework (RMF) packages or bodies of evidence; prior experience as a System/Network Administrator or ISSO; familiarity with Special Access Programs (SAP).

Training and Certifications:

  • DoD M IAM Level II certification (in lieu of IAT Level II).

Security Clearance:

  • TS SCI CI polygraph clearance required.
  • Level 2 Region 3 clearance.
