Position Overview

The role involves providing assistance to senior engineering staff by engaging in transmission planning tasks and conducting thorough analyses. This position supports the creation and execution of documentation to ensure compliance with NERC Reliability Standards and FRCC modeling requirements. The engineer will collaborate with Seminole Member Staff regarding new or modified delivery points and substations, ensuring effective communication with relevant Transmission Providers. Contributions to the planning process at Seminole will include economic assessments of new loads, optimal integration strategies for new resources or substations, and identifying areas within the Seminole system that require enhancements or modifications to accommodate future load growth.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conducts steady-state load flow contingency analysis, short circuit analysis, dynamic stability analysis, and single point of failure analysis of the interconnected transmission system.
  • Models Seminole and Seminole Member facilities within the FRCC Databank.
  • Coordinates and participates in Feasibility, System Impact, and Facility studies, both internally and with Member staff.
  • Prepares annual FERC-715 and FRCC Form 13 submissions.
  • Updates the FRCC Transmission Map.
  • Acts as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) regarding assigned NERC Reliability Standards related to the Planning Coordinator (PC) and Transmission Planner (TP) functions.
  • Prepares input data for computerized solutions to engineering challenges.
  • Supports technical analysis, planning studies, and operational studies.
  • Assists in the development of Seminole's short-term and long-term transmission expansion strategies.
  • Actively engages in the FRCC Transmission technical subcommittee.
  • Develops automation scripts for study applications, data sorting, and result analysis.
  • Creates databases for Transmission Planning data and information.
  • Performs additional duties as required or assigned.
Qualifications and Educational Background

A Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET accredited institution is mandatory. A minimum of three (3) years of experience in planning or engineering within the electric utility sector or a related field is preferred. A Master's Degree or Professional Engineer (PE) registration will be considered equivalent to one (1) year of experience.

Technical Skills:
  • Familiarity with NERC TPL, VAR MOD, FAC, PRC, and CIP Reliability Standards.
  • Experience with load flow, short circuit, and stability simulation software, preferably Siemens PSS/E, Siemens MUST, and/or TARA's Power GEM.
  • Understanding of drawings and diagrams.
  • Knowledge of transmission design and instructional manuals.
  • Experience with Generator Interconnection Studies.
  • Proficiency in Python/Visual Basic/Access programming.
  • Strong skills in Microsoft Office applications.

Physical Requirements

Must be capable of wearing personal protective equipment (PPE), and respiratory equipment may be necessary. A valid driver's license with a satisfactory motor vehicle report is required.

Working Environment

Standard office conditions apply. Some travel and work outside of regular business hours for technical seminars, conferences, and professional meetings may be necessary. Certain areas of the plant may present extreme temperatures and conditions.
