GENERAL SUMMARY:

Under the general oversight of the Store Manager, the Perishable Goods Supervisor is responsible for managing the Perishable Departments, which include produce, fresh and packaged meats, dairy, frozen foods, and bakery items. This role involves assisting the Store Manager in maintaining effective inventory control, ensuring appealing product displays, and delivering exceptional customer service. Additionally, the supervisor plays a key role in fostering a safe work environment and safeguarding company assets in accordance with established protocols. Compliance with food handling regulations is also a critical aspect of this position.

DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Support the Store Manager in maintaining the financial integrity of the store through diligent cash management, key control, and adherence to security protocols.
  • Follow company policies and procedures as outlined in the Standard Operating Procedures manual and Employee Handbook, ensuring compliance among staff.
  • Maintain optimal stock levels for perishable items based on store performance using various planning tools.
  • Assist in training team members on proper presentation, freshness, and pricing standards for all perishable categories.
  • Guide associates in safe food handling practices in line with relevant regulations.
  • Educate team members on effective stocking and rotation techniques for perishable products.
  • Document markdowns on perishable items, analyze trends, and implement corrective measures to minimize future occurrences.
  • Accurately track inventory levels as requested by the Store Support Center.
  • Engage with customers to understand their needs and ensure their requests are addressed promptly.
  • Support compliance with sanitation standards and train associates in the Perishable departments accordingly.
  • Assist in other operational areas as directed by the Store Manager.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS and ABILITIES:

  • Ability to interpret documents such as safety rules and operating instructions.
  • Proficiency in basic mathematical calculations.
  • Capability to operate cash registers and generate reports.
  • Aptitude for reviewing financial statements and identifying trends.
  • Understanding of cash handling and security policies.
  • Knowledge of inventory management and merchandising practices.
  • Strong organizational skills with attention to detail.
  • Effective communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Familiarity with safety policies and practices.
  • Ability to follow merchandising guidelines.
  • Willingness to comply with company policies and obtain necessary food handling certifications.
WORK EXPERIENCE &/or EDUCATION:
  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • One year of experience in a retail setting and six months of supervisory experience preferred.
  • Previous leadership experience in a grocery environment is a plus.
  • Attainment of required local and state food handling certifications, if applicable.
