Position Summary:

We invite you to be a part of Caterpillar's Resource Industry Operations & Products (RIOP) team as a Senior Engineering Project Team Leader specializing in Functional Safety. In this critical role, you will ensure the safety and dependability of our large mining trucks (LMT), which play a vital role in the global mining sector. Your expertise in ISO 19014 functional safety standards will be essential in upholding the highest safety benchmarks for our offerings. Key responsibilities will encompass thorough safety and risk assessments for all safety control functions of large mining trucks, alongside the development and implementation of functional safety concepts and requirements in alignment with ISO 19014 standards and Caterpillar's operational guidelines.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage the LMT Machine Controls System Safety Assessment (MCSSA), Bowtie, and other risk analysis initiatives in collaboration with LMT product teams and Caterpillar compliance specialists. Regularly update MCSSA documentation to support New Product Introduction (NPI) and annual product refresh efforts.
  • Facilitate the creation and revision of Safety Concepts for all LMT models' safety control functions, working closely with Caterpillar's performance, controls, and electronics engineers.
  • Apply the Safety Integrity Software Tool for the Evaluation of Machine Application (SISTEMA) to validate that all safety control functions meet the required ISO 19014 performance levels.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure adherence to safety standards throughout the product development lifecycle.
  • Draft and revise functional safety letters for LMT models to align with product launch and customer delivery schedules.
  • Document and advocate for best practices in executing functional safety tasks to enhance process efficiency.
  • Guide other RIOP product teams in implementing functional safety activities based on established and effective processes.
  • Stay informed about the latest advancements in functional safety standards and developments in LMT control functions.

Qualifications:

A degree is required.
