Job Summary

As an Assistant Director of Engineering, you will play a key role in managing the engineering department's operations, ensuring the smooth functioning of the physical plant, and maintaining high standards of safety, security, and asset protection. You will assist the department head in managing budgets, capital expenditures, and preventative maintenance programs, and be responsible for assigning, tracking, and following up on work assigned to staff and contractors.

Key Responsibilities
  • Support the department head in managing engineering budgets and capital expenditures
  • Assist in planning, scheduling, and evaluating preventative maintenance programs
  • Supervise the day-to-day operations of the engineering department
  • Manage the physical plant, including equipment, refrigeration, HVAC, plumbing, water treatment, electrical, and life safety systems
  • Supervise the distribution of repair work orders
  • Assist in maintaining grounds, meeting rooms, ballrooms, public spaces, restaurants, property vehicles, and recreational facilities
  • Act as a technical liaison for all departments in the property
  • Supervise engineering in the absence of the Director of Engineering
  • Recommend or arrange for additional services, such as painting, repair work, renovations, and the replacement of furnishings and equipment
  • Select and make purchases of new equipment, supplies, and furnishings
  • Inspect and evaluate the physical condition of facilities to determine the type of work required
  • Manage parts, supplies, and equipment inventories effectively
  • Perform inspections effectively
  • Assist in evaluating and implementing new technologies, equipment, and supplies
  • Assist in establishing and implementing an energy conservation program
Requirements
  • High school diploma or GED; 4 years of experience in engineering and maintenance or a related field; technical training in HVAC-R/electrical/plumbing
  • 2-year degree from an accredited university in Building and Construction, Engineering, Mechanics, or a related field; 2 years of experience in engineering and maintenance or a related field; technical training in HVAC-R/electrical/plumbing
