Job Overview

Position Summary:

The role focuses on enhancing the well-being of tribal community members by developing, implementing, and assessing the social services initiatives of Santa Clara Pueblo.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Engages in collaborative discussions with tribal leaders and stakeholders to foster improvements for community members;
  • Conducts interviews with tribal individuals facing challenges such as family dynamics, financial issues, employment, and health-related concerns to assess the nature and extent of their difficulties;
  • Gathers relevant information, including medical and psychological factors, to evaluate individual circumstances and capabilities;
  • Provides counseling to tribal members, whether individually, in family settings, or small groups, to devise strategies for addressing their needs and empowering them to utilize their strengths and available resources;
  • Guides community members in altering behaviors and attitudes by enhancing their self-awareness and understanding of personal challenges;
  • Connects clients with external community resources and organizations as necessary;
  • Implements follow-up procedures to evaluate the effectiveness and quality of services rendered and the status of each case;
  • Collects supplementary documentation such as employment records, medical histories, or educational reports;
  • Represents the organization in tribal court to present findings from case investigations;
  • Maintains communication with external agencies and serves as a liaison with local, state, and regional organizations;
  • Keeps tribal leadership updated on program activities, objectives, and achievements through effective reporting;
  • Participates in relevant meetings, workshops, and training sessions related to the Social Services Program, including topics such as Domestic Violence Awareness, Substance Abuse Counseling, and Diversity Education;
  • Contributes to team objectives by achieving related outcomes.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Understanding of tribal and departmental policies and procedures;
  • Familiarity with tribal, federal, and state laws and regulations relevant to social services;
  • Knowledge of fiscal management, grant writing, and budget preparation in accordance with SCP policies;
  • Proficiency in time management and its impact on personal well-being;
  • Awareness of effective conflict resolution strategies;
  • Expertise in problem-solving methodologies;
  • Experience with project evaluation techniques;
  • Strong leadership, supervisory, negotiation, and interpersonal skills for adapting priorities to meet evolving goals;
  • Competence in drafting reports and completing necessary documentation;
  • Ability to organize and analyze information effectively;
  • Skill in fostering group consensus to achieve objectives;
  • Capacity to generate new insights to enhance situations and improve efficiency;
  • Ability to work collaboratively and communicate effectively with staff and tribal leadership;
  • Decisiveness and sound reasoning in decision-making processes;

  • Proficiency in computer applications including word processing, advanced accounting software, email, and spreadsheets;

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Associate's degree in Psychology or a related field, coupled with two years of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience;
  • Possession of a valid New Mexico Driver's License and eligibility for insurance through the Tribe;
  • No DUI/DWI convictions within the past five years from any jurisdiction;
  • Successful completion of a background check;
  • Passing a drug and alcohol screening.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

This position requires regular sitting, use of hands for various tasks, and effective communication. The employee may frequently stand and walk, and occasionally climb or perform physical activities. The role may involve lifting or moving items up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required include close and distance vision, color vision, and depth perception. The employee may be exposed to outdoor weather conditions and may need to travel for training and meetings.
