Job Summary

This position is responsible for supporting the Santa Clara Pueblo community by installing and repairing handicap accessories and ramps in accordance with the American Disabilities Act specifications. The successful candidate will also perform home rehabilitation and minor repair services for qualified and approved program applicants.

Key Responsibilities
  • Installation and Repair
    • Install and repair handicap fixtures for disabled and senior citizens of the Pueblo.
    • Install wheelchair ramps, handrails in restrooms and shower stalls.
    • Install and repair restroom walls and floors.
    • Install plumbing fixtures.
  • Home Rehabilitation and Repair
    • Perform minor home repair and renovation for disabled, impaired, and/or senior citizens.
    • Work with the Sanitation crew when not working on handicap projects, performing basic plumbing services and various other tasks as needed.
  • Team Collaboration
    • Contribute to a team effort by accomplishing related results as required.
    • Act as a lead field person in the event the head plumber is not available.
Supplemental Responsibilities
  • Work in construction, rehabilitation, repair, and creation of structures, developments, and maintenance of Tribal structures.
  • Load and unload lumber, equipment, stone, pipes, and other building materials.
  • Lift, carry, transport building materials, tools, and supplies.
  • Keep tools clean and in good working order.
  • Use hand tools and power tools to complete assigned tasks.
  • Maintain community water and wastewater system in good working order.
  • Understand work schedules must be met and direct subordinates as necessary.
  • Inspect the water and wastewater system and make minor repairs as necessary to maintain water flow, etc.
Requirements
  • Able to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Able to write routine reports, work orders, etc.
  • Able to apply and carry out instructions in written, oral, or diagram form.
  • Capacity to interact effectively with employees at all levels of the organization as well as outside vendors.
  • Must be able to maintain the upkeep of all equipment.
  • Must be able to use a computer and be familiar with computer software related to the program.
Qualifications
  • Must have a High School Diploma/GED.
  • One year mechanic certificate from college or technical school plus one year related experience; or equivalent contribution of education and experience.
  • Must not have any DUI/DWI convictions within the last five (5) years from any Tribal, State, or Federal Court.
  • Valid New Mexico Driver's License and insurable through the Tribe's insurance carrier.
  • Able to pass a background check.
Physical Requirements and Work Environment

The employee is regularly required to stand, sit, use hands to finger, handle, or feel, and reach with hands and arms. The employee frequently is required to climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee is occasionally required to walk and talk or hear. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 75 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, and depth perception. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
