About the NSA Summer Internship Program

The National Security Agency (NSA) offers a unique opportunity for students to gain hands-on experience in the field of national security. Our summer internship program provides a chance to work on real-world projects, collaborate with experienced professionals, and contribute to the NSA's mission.

Program Overview

The NSA Summer Internship Program is a 12-week paid program that runs from mid-May to mid-August. The program is open to undergraduate freshmen up to Ph.D. students, depending on the internship requirements. We welcome students from a wide range of majors, including computer science, mathematics, cybersecurity, engineering, intelligence analysis, language, business, human resources, security and counterintelligence, strategic communications, psychology, and signals intelligence.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen
  • Must be enrolled in a degree-seeking program (undergraduate, graduate, doctorate) at the time of application
  • Specific education requirements vary by program
  • Preferred cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher
  • Must be eligible to be granted a TS/SCI security clearance after successfully completing a background investigation, a Full-scope Polygraph, and a Psychological Evaluation
  • Must be available and in the U.S. for operational and technical interviews and other applicable processing

Language Program

The NSA Summer Language Program is a unique opportunity for students to gain language proficiency in critical languages such as Arabic, Mandarin Chinese, Persian Farsi, and African languages. This program is open to students who are interested in language and cultural studies, and who are willing to commit to a rigorous language training program.
