Job Description Summary

The Field Service Engineer is accountable for providing efficient and effective field service support to BD Pyxis Dispensing Devices customers within a given territory in a timely manner. This includes service and repair, preventative maintenance, calibration, installations, and limited cross-functional support for Sales and Implementation teams.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide remote and on-site technical support for BD Pyxis automated dispensing systems located within hospitals and other healthcare facilities within the region.
  • Respond to, evaluate, and prioritize work orders; diagnose, service, and resolve issues regarding proprietary hardware and software system components.
  • Implement a preventive maintenance program and provide limited multi-functional support for Sales and Implementation teams.
  • Demonstrate a moderate use of proficiency and an appropriate ability to solve hardware and software problems.
  • Provide efficient field services to all BD customers in a timely manner, including but not limited to installations, in-servicing, repair, preventive maintenance, calibration, and sales support.
Requirements
  • Associate Degree in Healthcare Technology or other technical field, or 3-5 years of combination Hardware/Software/IT experience supporting both proprietary and standard applications.
  • 24x7 on-call experience in a customer-facing/field service environment, required.
  • Good mechanical, computer, verbal, written, and time management skills, required.
  • Customer Support Certification, a plus.
  • Prior experience working as a hospital pharmacy technician or in a hospital Bio-Med environment, a plus.
  • Prior military Bio-Med experience, a plus.
  • Prior Automated Teller Machine (ATM) experience, a plus.
Working Conditions

The Field Service Engineer is a remote field-based position with daily travel to customer locations within the assigned territory. Ideal candidates will reside within a 30-mile radius of where the position is based. Company vehicle provided. 5% overnight travel possible and a valid driver's license is required.

Able to work within defined processes and methodologies with minimal degree of supervision. Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license and meet BD's auto safety standards. Upon hire, must provide proof of and maintain current immunizations and obtain additional immunizations appropriate for the facility which enables access to customer sites in order to perform essential job functions.

Lifting requirements - Ability to lift 70 lb. objects from the floor to chest level. Hand Powered Tools - Ability to operate powered drills, powered screw drivers, and other powered tools. Manual Tool Manipulation - Ability to turn manual sockets, crescent wrenches, and screw drivers repeatedly over the course of an 8-to-10-hour day.

Ability to sit, kneel, squat, bend, and stand repeatedly in an 8–10-hour period to assemble and repair instrument suites. Ability to push and pull heavy objects (on casters). Ability to perform fine motor tasks while reaching over the course of an 8–10-hour day. Ability to carry a 40 lb. pack on your back or shoulder for up to 1 hour. Ability to drive distances of up to 6 hours, and in adverse weather conditions. Able to climb portable ladders and step stools.

May be required to wear a respirator while servicing equipment, thus must be able to pass a fit test and medical evaluation.
