Job Overview

The Welding and Fabrication Specialist is responsible for designing, welding, and fabricating both new and existing equipment, components, and tools.

Key Responsibilities
  • Equipment Maintenance: Ensure all welding and fabrication tools and supplies are properly maintained.
  • Custom Fabrication: Create and design equipment throughout the facility based on specific orders.
  • Welding Operations: Utilize various welding and fabrication tools to produce necessary equipment.
  • Compliance and Training: Adhere to testing requirements set by supervisors and stay updated on necessary training for the role.
  • Hot Works Program: Apply knowledge of and utilize the Simmons Hot Works Program as required.
Team Collaboration

Actively participate as a member of the team, contributing to the ongoing development, communication, and implementation of team concepts, programs, and policies. Coordinate work to ensure best practices are followed among all team members. Attend relevant team meetings and foster strong collaboration on major issues such as direction, planning, budgeting, and policy changes. Take responsibility for identifying areas lacking cohesion and work with the team leader to resolve issues while promoting synergy within the organization.

Operational Knowledge

Familiarize yourself with Simmons' established operational systems, including quality, security, and company policies. Understand the importance of maintaining familiarity with these systems and the role this position plays in supporting them, including the impact of individual actions on these systems.

Additional Duties

This job description serves as a guide for the activities of the Welding and Fabrication Specialist and is not intended to limit creativity or the scope of work required.

Physical Requirements

Must be able to stand for the entire shift and perform tasks involving lifting, pushing, pulling, stooping, and bending in varying temperatures. Ability to lift, push, or pull up to 100 pounds is essential.

Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)

Hearing protection, eye protection, and leather gloves are required.

Technical Skills

Proficiency in various welding techniques, including MIG, TIG, and stick welding. Knowledge of oxy-acetylene torches and plasma cutters is essential. Basic computer skills are also required.

Industry Experience

Experience in the poultry or food processing industry is preferred.

Education Requirements

Strong math skills are necessary. Experience with AUTOCAD is preferred. A High School Diploma or GED is required.

Competencies

Effective communication skills and decision-making abilities are crucial. The ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines while proactively solving problems is essential.
