Advanced Trades Mechanic for Physical Plant Operations

Overview

The incumbent in this role operates at an advanced level, executing preventative maintenance, HVAC servicing, and restoration tasks across various traditional trades. This is essential for maintaining the effective functioning of a physical plant.

Key Responsibilities

The following duties are core to this position and are not an exhaustive list of all responsibilities:

Conducts routine and intricate maintenance repairs on both the interior and exterior of building structures, fixtures, and related systems, including heavy-duty mechanical equipment and HVAC systems. Engages in restoration and renovation projects for facilities, including historical structures; constructs partitions and shelving based on provided sketches or plans, refurbishes furniture and equipment, and may design layouts for optimal space utilization. Advises on the referral of tasks that exceed financial or capability limits to external contractors. Responsible for the maintenance and repair of compressors, pumps, hydraulic lifts, and treatment facilities, as well as the operation and upkeep of HVAC systems and complex plumbing installations. Operates and maintains essential life safety equipment, including sprinkler systems. May supervise skilled and semi-skilled maintenance personnel during specific assignments or training sessions. Keeps detailed records of work performed, materials utilized, and time allocated to tasks, and may procure materials and supplies through established protocols. May be involved in maintenance tasks related to highway lighting or drawbridge systems.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications for the Advanced Trades Mechanic Role
Candidates must demonstrate education, training, and/or experience in the following areas:

A minimum of six months of experience operating and maintaining various equipment and tools used in trades such as plumbing, carpentry, painting, or HVAC. At least six months of experience working across different trades, including plumbing, carpentry, painting, or HVAC. Six months of experience in maintaining records. Proficiency in interpreting blueprints, schematics, or technical drawings. Ability to estimate costs, time, and materials for projects. A valid Driver's License is required (must not be suspended, revoked, or cancelled).
