Job Overview

Position: Dietary Clerk

Shift: 10:00 am to 4:00 pm

The Dietary Clerk plays a crucial role in providing administrative and clerical assistance within the food and nutrition division. This position encompasses various responsibilities aimed at ensuring the smooth operation of dietary services.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Support for Food and Nutrition Services

  • Evaluates each menu to ensure patient food selections align with prescribed dietary guidelines. Keeps the diet cardex updated with current allergies, preferences, and any changes affecting patients' diets.
  • Ensures all menus are prepared and accounted for in advance for the next day's processing.
  • Updates the diet cardex for new admissions, cancellations, NPO status, transfers, and discharges.
  • Compiles a comprehensive tally of food items selected on patient menus and records quantities in the cooks' production sheet.
  • Counts all patient meals served on a daily basis and generates a report at the end of each month.
  • Reviews the nourishment cardex daily to confirm that all modifications are accurately documented.
  • Handles incoming calls with professionalism and maintains an organized inventory of office supplies, menus, forms, and other materials to enhance the efficiency of the dietary office. Compiles charges for nutritional supplements and forwards them to the business office.
  • Engages with family members or significant others to assist them in the menu selection process.
  • Participates in at least 80% of departmental meetings and in-service training sessions.
  • Maintains awareness of nutritional needs across various patient age groups: Pediatric, Adult, and Geriatric.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education: High School Diploma or GED preferred.

Experience: Minimum of one year in a dietary office or relevant clerical role.

Skills and Competencies: Proficient clerical abilities and strong customer service skills.
