Job Summary

Lakeside School, a leading independent coeducational day school in North Seattle, is seeking a skilled Maintenance Staff to join its facilities team. As a key member of the team, you will be responsible for maintaining, repairing, and upkeeping the school's buildings, landscaped areas, athletic fields, playgrounds, walkways, and parking lots.

Duties and Responsibilities
  1. Adhere to the Accident Prevention Program and employee policy manual.
  2. Perform repairs and assemble furniture, cabinets, and other equipment.
  3. Make minor repairs to locks and other equipment throughout the buildings.
  4. Clean and change HVAC filters and return grills.
  5. Perform minor electrical and plumbing work, replace ballasts, switches, and light bulbs.
  6. Scrape, sand, and prepare surfaces for painting.
  7. Clean roofs and gutters on buildings.
  8. Operate snow removal equipment, such as shovels, tractors, and gators with snowplows.
  9. Use hand and power tools necessary to perform assigned duties.
  10. Mow, fertilize, and aerate lawns, weed flower beds, trim shrubs, and trees.
  11. Line fields for sporting events.
  12. Sweep and clean campus parking lots, steps, and walkways.
  13. Perform set-up and take-down for special events.
  14. Observe safety procedures when operating power equipment around the school.
  15. Fuel and check vehicles and buses.
  16. Manage deliveries, set-ups, and removals for events and activities.
  17. Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements and Qualifications
  1. Experience in lawn care, landscaping, and play field maintenance is preferred.
  2. Experience in operating irrigation systems and drainage systems.
  3. Three years of semi-skilled building maintenance work preferred.
Physical and Environmental Requirements
  1. Lift and move heavy objects with and without assistance.
  2. Manipulate hand and electric tools, wires, cables, and structural tools and equipment.
  3. Operate power movers, weed-eaters, and chain saws.
  4. Work in inclement weather.
  5. Kneel, climb, and crawl in tight spaces.
  6. Service landscaping equipment.
  7. Climb ladders and stairs frequently.
  8. Perform installation and repair functions for up to eight hours per day.
  9. Bend, crouch, and maneuver body in tight, cramped quarters.
  10. Twist body at 45-degree angles.
  11. Move quickly between the Upper School campus and the Middle School campus to perform maintenance and grounds keeping tasks.
  12. Exposure to sharp blades from hand power tools and chemical fumes from glues, solvents, cleaners, and adhesives.
