Job Summary:

The Student Support Teacher will provide academic instruction to students on an individualized or small group basis, communicate with families, teachers, and school personnel to support a successful educational journey, and travel to school sites as assigned to meet with instruction and administrative teams and to engage students in their learning environment.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Manage a student caseload and provide academic instruction to students on an individualized or small group basis
  • Communicate with families, teachers, and school personnel to support a successful educational journey
  • Travel to school sites as assigned to meet with instruction and administrative teams and to engage students in their learning environment
  • Provide academic guidance to students attending the afterschool program at the SMSC Education center as scheduled
  • Work with the Education Department on curricular and programmatic innovations
  • Maintain a safe and healthy environment
  • Supervise students in classroom settings and on activities as scheduled
Requirements:
  • Current MN Teaching License required
  • Bachelor's degree, ideally in Education, Psychology or related field
  • Demonstrated experience as a classroom teacher, instructor, tutor, or teaching assistant
  • Demonstrated sensitivity to and understanding of the Dakota people, their culture, history and contemporary status
  • Demonstrated understanding of, and ideally experience working with Native American school age children and their families
  • Demonstrated ability to work closely with our families and the school's staff to ensure effective communication, collaboration, and cooperation
  • Demonstrated commitment to promoting academic and cognitive success for each student
  • Demonstrated effective organizational and communication skills
  • Demonstrated computer skills, Microsoft, Word, and Excel
  • Valid Class D driver's license may be required with a good driving record
  • C.P.R. and First Aid Certification or ability to obtain within 90 days of employment
  • Ability to work 2nd shift when needed
  • Current MN Teaching license in Special Education with ABS, ASD, EBD, DD, or LD a PLUS
