Position: Policy Analyst – Energy and Environment

Kountoupes Denham Carr & Reid (KDCR Partners) is a prominent bipartisan lobbying firm located in Washington, D.C., advocating for both public and private entities, trade associations, and non-profit organizations before legislative bodies and federal agencies.

We are currently seeking a Policy Analyst with a focus on energy and environmental issues. The ideal candidate will possess experience on Capitol Hill and demonstrate a keen interest in energy and environmental policy. This role is essential in supporting our team’s initiatives to develop, coordinate, and implement legislative strategies and policy goals for our diverse clientele.

This is a full-time opportunity based in Washington, D.C.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in managing a portfolio of energy and environmental client accounts by monitoring policy developments, creating content, attending meetings, conducting research, and ensuring timely completion of tasks.
  • Coordinate meetings between clients and policymakers, including congressional staff and administration officials.
  • Attend and provide comprehensive reports on legislative, regulatory, and administrative activities, including committee hearings, markups, bill introductions, briefings, and press conferences.
  • Conduct in-depth research on legislative and regulatory proposals, particularly in the energy and environmental sectors.
  • Support the creation of high-quality briefing documents, issue summaries, and meeting notes for client distribution.
  • Maintain various tracking systems, including client and Hill staff contact lists, legislative trackers, and administration staff databases.
  • Monitor the annual fiscal year President's Budget Request to Congress and the subsequent appropriations process, compiling memos on priorities and legislative statuses relevant to clients.
  • Organize client meetings with policymakers and administration officials.
  • Facilitate fly-ins for both large and small groups.
  • Prepare weekly updates for clients detailing significant industry, legislative, and executive branch activities.
  • Contribute to broader firm projects as needed.
  • Assist in drafting proposals for prospective clients and preparing documents for meetings with potential clients.
  • Support administrative tasks related to client service and firm operations, including organizing office events.

Qualifications:

  • Internship or entry-level experience on Capitol Hill, in the administration, or at a government affairs firm focusing on federal policy issues, with a strong preference for energy/environment policy experience.
  • Proven ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, with diverse audiences.
  • Strong research and analytical capabilities.
  • Ability to prioritize and manage tasks in a fast-paced, dynamic environment to meet deadlines.
  • Capacity to work independently and collaboratively in a positive and cooperative manner.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications for producing quality written communications, including memos, spreadsheets, and presentations.
  • Familiarity with social media platforms such as Facebook, X, LinkedIn, and Instagram.
  • Self-motivated, resourceful, and a proactive problem solver.
  • Ability to multitask, manage detailed administrative tasks, and maintain attention to detail.
  • Curious, adaptable, and possessing a positive attitude.

Compensation:

  • Salary is commensurate with experience and aligned with the House of Representatives' minimum wage.
