Job SummaryThis PRN or relief position performs diagnostic nuclear medicine exams under the direction of the Radiology Director and the technical direction of the Radiologist. The successful candidate will be responsible for preparing, measuring, and administering radiopharmaceuticals in diagnostic and therapeutic studies, as well as operating nuclear medicine equipment and performing nuclear medicine procedures to assist physicians in the diagnosis of disease.
Responsibilities- Explain procedures to patients and instruct and assist patients in assuming physical positions for examination to reduce anxiety and obtain patient cooperation.
- Prepare stock solutions of radiopharmaceutical materials, calculate doses, and administer doses.
- Calibrate equipment.
- Perform diagnostic studies on patients as prescribed by physician, using scanners or scintillation cameras to detect radiation emitted and to produce images of organs.
- Measure radioactivity, using Geiger counters, scalers, and scintillation detectors.
- Administer therapeutic doses of radiopharmaceuticals.
- Follow radiation safety techniques in use and disposal of radioactive materials.
- Operate the department computer system for scheduling and billing procedures.
- Operate PACS system to ensure all images are verified and sent.
- Start IV's and administer radioisotopes.
- Work with patients of all ages to develop an understanding of their physical and emotional status.
- Recognize symptoms and signs of reactions and implement appropriate intervention.
- Assist in cross-training/teaching other department personnel and/or students.
- Maintain supply inventory.
- Maintain records of use and disposal of all radioactive materials in keeping with the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) standards.

Associate's degree or equivalent from AMA-approved Nuclear Medicine school. Previous experience in the field desirable.
Holds or is eligible for certification by the ARRT in Nuclear Medicine. CNMT or RT(N).
Mandatory Basic and Advanced Life Support Training per policy.
