Diagnostic Nuclear Medicine Technologist

Prairie Lakes Healthcare System is seeking a skilled Diagnostic Nuclear Medicine Technologist to join our team. As a key member of our radiology department, you will play a critical role in delivering high-quality patient care and contributing to the diagnosis of diseases.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Perform diagnostic nuclear medicine exams under the direction of the Radiology Director and the technical direction of the Radiologist.
  • Prepare, measure, and administer radiopharmaceuticals in diagnostic and therapeutic studies.
  • Operate nuclear medicine equipment and perform nuclear medicine procedures to assist physicians in the diagnosis of disease.
  • Explain procedures to patients, instruct, and assist patients in assuming physical positions for examination to reduce anxiety and obtain patient cooperation.
  • Prepare stock solutions of radiopharmaceutical materials, calculate doses, and administer doses.
  • Calibrate equipment and perform diagnostic studies on patients as prescribed by physician, using scanners or scintillation cameras to detect radiation emitted and to produce images of organs.
  • Measure radioactivity, using Geiger counters, scalers, and scintillation detectors.
  • Administer therapeutic doses of radiopharmaceuticals and follow radiation safety techniques in use and disposal of radioactive materials.
  • Operate the department computer system for scheduling and billing procedures and ensure all images are verified and sent.
  • Start IV's and administer radioisotopes, work with patients of all ages to develop an understanding of their physical and emotional status, and recognize symptoms and signs of reactions and implement appropriate intervention.
  • Assist in cross-training/teaching other department personnel and/or students, maintain supply inventory, and maintain records of use and disposal of all radioactive materials in keeping with the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) standards.
Requirements:
  • Associate's degree or equivalent from an AMA-approved Nuclear Medicine school.
  • Previous experience in the field is desirable.
  • Holds or is eligible for certification by the ARRT in Nuclear Medicine, CNMT, or RT(N).
  • Mandatory Basic and Advanced Life Support Training per policy.
