POSITION REQUIREMENTS


• Previous experience in patent prosecution is essential.


• A Bachelor's degree in chemistry, organic chemistry, medicinal chemistry, biochemistry, or chemical engineering is preferred, along with relevant research experience; or a Master's or PhD in a related chemistry discipline.


• Must be qualified to take the patent bar exam; preferably already licensed to practice before the USPTO.


• Strong academic credentials are required.


• Proficient in analyzing, interpreting, and deriving conclusions from research data, with the ability to prepare comprehensive reports. Exceptional investigative and problem-solving skills are necessary.


• Familiarity with the principles, procedures, and standards for drafting a variety of complex patent documents in the relevant field. Awareness of current and emerging trends within the area of expertise is crucial.


• Advanced understanding of research methodologies, techniques, and resources.


• Excellent interpersonal skills; capable of collaborating effectively with a diverse range of individuals.


• Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize multiple tasks and meet deadlines.


• Exceptional oral and written communication skills.


• Ability to convey complex factual and technical information clearly.


• Proficient in time management software and familiar with Outlook, Word, and Excel.


• Knowledge of prosecution docketing systems is advantageous.


• Understanding of confidentiality issues and ethical responsibilities is required.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

This role primarily involves preparing draft patent applications, formulating responses to USPTO communications, assisting in due diligence matters (including clearance studies and opinion work), and supporting the technical aspects of litigation as necessary. Responsibilities include:


• Engaging in continuous education to stay updated on current patent prosecution trends and issues, as required for maintaining appropriate accreditation.


• Assessing and reporting on the technological components of inventions and other scientific matters. Conducting investigations into general and specific technologies as required. Discussing scientific aspects of inventions with clients and inventors.


• Identifying and analyzing intricate patent issues and implementing effective solutions.


• Acting as a liaison between inventors and the Patent & Trademark Office throughout the patent application process.


• Communicating professionally with staff, clients, and PTO personnel through various channels.


• Interacting courteously with clients, attorneys, and colleagues at all levels while ensuring confidentiality is maintained.


• Organizing and prioritizing multiple tasks to complete them efficiently under time constraints.


• Keeping abreast of technological advancements and making recommendations regarding technology needs.


• Additional hours may be necessary to meet deadlines or manage workload peaks. Flexibility for overtime, including evenings and weekends, may be required.


• This position may allow for a hybrid work arrangement, requiring a minimum of three days per week in the office, with the possibility of up to two days per week working remotely.
