Role Summary

The Medication Assistant (MA) acts as a caregiver, delivering resident-focused nursing care and daily living support to assigned individuals under the guidance of a supervising nurse. The MA is knowledgeable in providing age-appropriate care that addresses both the physical and emotional needs of residents as outlined in their care plans. Responsibilities include assisting with essential health care tasks such as bathing, grooming, dressing, and recording vital signs, while also offering psycho-social support and personal care.

Additionally, the MA administers prescribed medications as directed by a licensed nurse, adhering to state regulations. Accurate documentation of resident care, medication administration, and any behavioral or dietary changes is essential. The MA communicates any changes in residents' conditions to the charge nurse and assists with non-invasive specimen collection and vital sign monitoring.

Housekeeping and laundry duties are also part of the role, ensuring residents' living spaces remain clean and functional. The MA supports wellness and recreational activities, encouraging resident participation.

Qualifications

A high school diploma or equivalent is preferred, though not mandatory. Candidates should be at least 18 years old, with prior clinical or nursing assistant experience being advantageous.

Completion of annual competency testing and continuing education credits is required, with a minimum of 12 hours of education mandated yearly based on state guidelines. Specific certifications may be necessary depending on the state of employment.
