POSITION SUMMARY

Under the supervision of the Manager - Riverfront Programs and Events, the Riverfront Events Specialist plays a crucial role in the coordination and execution of various programs and events for the Riverfront division of Fort Wayne Parks and Recreation. This role demands a high level of professionalism, initiative, and independent judgment in daily operations.

All responsibilities must align with safety protocols and adhere to applicable regulations.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

The incumbent will be expected to:

  • Assist in the planning, setup, and breakdown of events and programs.
  • Deliver exceptional customer service to participants and the general public.
  • Support boating operations, including preparation, passenger guidance, and safety assurance.
  • Communicate enthusiastically about Riverfront Fort Wayne and related programs.
  • Lead various Riverfront activities such as tours and excursions.
  • Identify and secure necessary resources, including facilities and staff.
  • Monitor and evaluate program activities, providing guidance to volunteers and staff.
  • Research and develop new riverfront programs, including budgeting and planning.
  • Prepare necessary reports and documentation.
  • Enforce departmental rules and policies effectively.
  • Recruit, schedule, and train volunteers as needed.
  • Maintain inventory of supplies and equipment.
  • Manage financial transactions in accordance with departmental policies.
  • Maintain a collection of promotional images for marketing purposes.
  • Engage with a diverse range of participants and groups.
  • Assist with rental operations, including bookings and facility management.
  • Support grant-sponsored programs and their reporting requirements.
  • Contribute to the creation of marketing materials for programs.

ADDITIONAL DUTIES

May include:

  • Assisting with other departmental activities as assigned.
  • Taking on additional responsibilities in the absence of the Riverfront Program and Event Manager.
  • Participating in meetings with various committees and organizations.

PERFORMANCE EXPECTATIONS

The incumbent is responsible for managing their performance in accordance with the outlined job description and expectations set by management. Clarity on roles and responsibilities should be sought when necessary.


SUPERVISORY ROLE

May involve overseeing instructors and volunteers.


QUALIFICATIONS

Required:

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • 1-3 months of relevant experience or training.
  • Familiarity with Riverfront Fort Wayne's mission and related programs.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Ability to foster effective relationships with participants.
  • Experience with paddle and motorized boats is preferred.

CERTIFICATIONS

Must possess a valid Indiana Driver's License and obtain First Aid and CPR certification within two weeks of employment.


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Must be able to perform essential functions, which may include:

  • Regularly talking and hearing.
  • Occasionally standing, walking, and lifting up to 50 pounds.
