Position Overview
The Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) is seeking a skilled Tax Attorney to provide comprehensive legal counsel on a wide array of tax-related issues.
- Employment Type: Full-Time
- Salary Range: $91,039 - $191,900*
- *Note: Higher starting salary may be available based on experience
- Qualifications: Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an ABA-accredited law school
- Citizenship: U.S. citizens (including dual citizens) are eligible
- Age Requirement: Must be at least 18 years old
- Location: Willingness to relocate to the Washington, DC area
- Security Clearance: Must be able to complete security and medical evaluations
Role Responsibilities
As a Tax Attorney within the CIA's Office of General Counsel, you will be tasked with delivering legal guidance on a comprehensive range of tax matters. Your expertise will be essential in navigating the unique tax challenges associated with the Agency's national security operations. This includes advising on compliance with state, federal, and international tax laws related to covert activities, while also serving as a vital resource for employment-related tax issues.
The successful candidate will possess a robust understanding of the Internal Revenue Code and demonstrate the ability to work independently in a dynamic environment. While an LL.M. in Taxation is preferred, it is not mandatory.

Candidate Requirements
- Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an ABA-accredited law school; LL.M. in Taxation preferred but not required
- Minimum GPA of 3.0 on a 4-point scale
- Active bar membership from any U.S. jurisdiction
- At least five (5) years of relevant legal experience with a focus on tax law
- Demonstrated competencies in legal analysis, communication, and the ability to manage multiple priorities
- Proven ability to develop and maintain collaborative relationships
- Expertise in complex legal matters and strong client counseling skills
