ROLE SUMMARY

The Fire Alarm Design Engineer will be responsible for developing comprehensive fire alarm systems tailored to the specific needs of various building projects. The ideal candidate will demonstrate exceptional operational capabilities. This role primarily involves acting as the chief technical advisor within the organization, facilitating project execution and retrofitting efforts. A strong emphasis on safety and client satisfaction is paramount. Candidates should be adept at conveying technical ideas and solutions to both internal teams and external stakeholders, including conducting site assessments, thoroughly analyzing client specifications, and identifying potential opportunities and risks throughout the proposal process.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Support project managers in the execution of projects, ensuring adherence to financial, scheduling, and contractual commitments.
  • Collaborate with a diverse team of professionals across various disciplines.
  • Assist in pricing adjustments for additional work and suggest enhancements.
  • Provide forecasting support for project staffing requirements.
  • Coordinate efforts with internal teams, subcontractors, and other trades.
  • Maintain project updates for project managers.
  • Participate in job meetings as directed by project managers.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related technical discipline, or 5 years of practical experience in fire alarm systems, including design and/or installation.
  • Certifications and/or programming expertise with: EST-3, EST-4, or equivalent fire alarm systems.
  • Active NICET IV or PE certification, with the ability to stamp plans in Massachusetts.
  • Proficient in fire alarm systems, including voice evacuation and mass notification systems.
  • Familiarity with current NFPA, IFC, IBC, and other relevant codes governing fire alarm systems.
  • Experience with AutoCAD, fire alarm design, and programming is advantageous.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, submittals, and operational/product manuals.
  • Capable of understanding client needs and providing cost-effective solutions.
  • Experience using hand tools, testing equipment, and digital multimeters for troubleshooting electrical issues.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • Willingness to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, to fulfill project requirements.
  • Some overnight travel may be necessary.
