The Culinary Service Associate role is situated within the Nutrition & Food Service department at the Veterans Health Administration.

Eligibility
This opportunity is available to
- U.S. Citizens and Nationals.
Essential duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Prepare cafeteria lines, steam tables, and dining areas with both hot and cold food selections.
- Serve meals in a cafeteria style, ensuring proper portion sizes for customers and patients.
- Clean and reset dining areas post-meal service, returning unused food items to the kitchen.
- Set dining tables for service, ensuring food and beverages are replenished as needed.
- Transport soiled trays and dishes to the dishwashing area after meals.
- Deliver meal trays directly to patients' rooms.
- Brew coffee according to demand.
- Prepare fresh fruit or green salads in bulk, utilizing appropriate dressings and portioning techniques.
- Portion other food items into standard serving sizes using designated utensils and containers.
- Assemble cold sandwiches with pre-prepared ingredients and pack box lunches.
- Engage in various kitchen functions, including food preparation, dishwashing, and inventory management.
- Sort, wash, peel, and cut fresh produce.
- Operate kitchen equipment and perform routine maintenance.
- Conduct thorough cleaning tasks in food service areas.
- Separate food waste from dishes during the cleaning process.
- Assist in unloading delivery trucks and storing supplies appropriately.
- Perform heavy cleaning of cooking utensils and kitchen equipment.
- Complete additional tasks as assigned.
This is a full-time position, with schedules determined by the needs of the facility.
Requirements
To qualify for this position, candidates must meet the following conditions:
- Must be a U.S. Citizen.
- Registration with Selective Service is required for males born after December 31, 1959.
- May be required to complete a probationary period.
- Subject to background and security investigations.
- Pre-employment physical examination is mandatory.
- Participation in the seasonal influenza vaccination program is required for all personnel.
- Compliance with COVID-19 vaccination protocols is necessary for all healthcare personnel.
To be considered for this role, applicants must demonstrate relevant experience or training that supports their ability to perform the duties outlined.
Physical Requirements
This position requires light to moderate physical effort, with potential for heavy work involving lifting and moving items. Workers will frequently stand, walk, and engage in various physical activities in a kitchen environment that may be hot and humid.
