Job Overview

Thompson Engineering is seeking a Senior Construction Inspector or CEI Level II in the Montgomery, AL region. Individuals in this role are responsible for adhering to established protocols for documenting construction activities and inspecting job functions to ensure alignment with project designs and specifications.

The inspector will be tasked with generating daily reports that detail the labor and equipment utilized by contractors, including a summary of the work executed and any significant discussions with the contractor.

Additionally, the inspector will support office tasks such as drafting cross-sections and calculating earthwork quantities. This position reports directly to the Senior Inspector and/or the Project Manager.


Key Responsibilities
  • Monitor ongoing work to confirm compliance with project plans and specifications.
  • Evaluate the quality of completed installations to ensure they meet established standards.
  • Maintain accurate records of construction inspection activities.
  • Create sketches of construction modifications that diverge from original plans and update master plans accordingly.
  • Conduct inspections and tests on materials used in the project.
  • Interpret specifications related to materials and workmanship.
  • Safely operate a company vehicle to and from job sites.
  • Perform all work in accordance with Thompson Holdings, Inc. Health, Safety & Environmental Management System, including safety policies, procedures, and plans.
  • Actively participate in monthly safety meetings and project toolbox safety discussions.
  • Ensure punctuality and regular attendance.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent is required; a four-year degree in Civil Engineering is preferred.
  • A minimum of five (5) years of experience in construction inspection, or a combination of relevant experience and education.
  • Experience with ALDOT Bridge construction is mandatory.
  • Ability to obtain certification in Alabama for Concrete, Roadway Technician, Earthworks, QCI, and MUTCD.
  • ACI Certification is preferred.
  • Intermediate skills in mathematics and geometry for calculating areas and volumes.
  • A valid Driver's License is required.
  • Proficiency in computer applications such as Word, Excel, and Outlook.

Physical Requirements
  • Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions for up to 100% of the time.
  • Must be capable of lifting at least 50 lbs.
  • Required to stand for a minimum of eight (8) hours daily.
  • Must be able to bend, stoop, and climb ladders.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills are essential.
  • Ability to drive a company vehicle to job sites.
