About the Position

The Administrative Specialist for Housing & Residence Life at George Mason University is responsible for providing exceptional customer service and administrative support to the department. This role involves managing the daily operations of the Housing & Residence Life desk, overseeing various fiscal processes, and coordinating logistics for housing tours.

Key Responsibilities
  • Customer Service & Office Management
    • Provide professional and efficient service to students, staff, and visitors at the Housing & Residence Life desk.
    • Assist with questions and concerns related to Housing & Residence Life.
    • Collaborate with other administrative staff to provide thorough and professional responses to inquiries.
    • Ensure the desk and surrounding area remain neat and clean.
  • Administrative & Housing Tour Logistics
    • Assist with preparing residence hall keys and cards for new arrivals and room changes.
    • Develop and maintain systems and procedures for desk management.
    • Coordinate daily housing tours in collaboration with the University Office of Admissions.
  • Student Office Assistant Supervision
    • Supervise student Office Assistants assigned to the designated Housing & Residence Life desk.
    • Provide indirect supervision and leadership to other student staff assisting at the desk.
    • Complete performance evaluations for student staff each semester.
Requirements
  • Associate's degree in a related field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Customer service or administrative experience.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Effective organizational and clerical skills.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Prior experience in an administrative support or office management role.
  • Prior experience coordinating and facilitating tours and/or orientation events in a higher education setting.
