We are seeking an accomplished Finance Director and Actuary to join our esteemed Life & Annuity Valuation team at Mutual of Omaha. This is a highly visible role where you will oversee universal life valuation operations, manage a team, communicate financial results and insights to senior management, and present deliverables to the Board of Directors.

As a valued member of our organization, you can expect:

  • A competitive salary range of $180,000 - $220,000 per year, complemented by an annual bonus opportunity.

In this exciting role, you will have the chance to:

Main Responsibilities
  • Lead and manage a high-performing team responsible for valuation operations, ensuring all personnel management functions align with enterprise and department goals.
  • Develop or guide the development of models for universal life and indexed universal life valuation, risk analysis, and business planning.
  • Enhance risk management by utilizing stochastic modeling and other advanced techniques to provide insight into asset-related, economic, and policyholder behavior assumptions.
  • Communicate financial insights and trends to senior management and the Board of Directors, presenting complex technical findings clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, such as Investments, Capital Management, and Financial Planning, to drive enterprise-wide initiatives optimizing the company's risk/return profile.
  • Provide peer reviews of actuarial work, ensuring accuracy and rigor, and serve as a mentor within the department, fostering growth and staying up-to-date on emerging trends and best practices.
  • Stay informed on the latest valuation techniques and risk assessment methodologies, identifying opportunities to enhance processes and elevate standards for reporting and analysis.

To succeed in this role, you should possess:

Key Qualifications
  • Fellowship in the Society of Actuaries (FSA) and relevant experience in principle-based reserves.
  • Expertise in valuation and modeling, with a strong understanding of individual life insurance products, asset classes, and valuation requirements.
  • Creative problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify ways to lower risk without sacrificing return or enhance returns without increasing risk.
  • Strong business judgment, recognizing when experience trends or issues warrant adjustments in standard approaches.
  • Leadership and communication skills, exceling in managing teams and communicating complex concepts with clarity.
  • Collaboration and influence skills, building strong relationships with key stakeholders to ensure the success of cross-functional projects.
