Eligibility Requirements:

Applicants should possess a minimum of one year of permanent service as a Culinary Services Associate 2, Grade 9, and be eligible for transfer;

NYS HELPS Opportunity:
Candidates must be employed by New York State and have one year of service as a Culinary Services Associate 2.
OR
Two years of relevant experience in commercial or institutional food preparation or service.


Examples of Relevant Experience:
Employment in settings such as hospitals, nursing homes, school cafeterias, residential dining facilities, restaurants, or diners. Experience should include responsibilities in food preparation, service, and inventory management of food and non-food supplies.


Formal Training:
Appropriate formal culinary training may be credited towards the required experience as follows:
1. A six-month certificate program - up to six months of the required experience;
2. A one-year certificate program - up to one year of the required experience;
3. An associate degree or higher in culinary arts or food service from an accredited institution - up to two years of the required experience.


Duties Overview:
The Office of Mental Health (OMH) is seeking to fill two contingent-permanent Culinary Services Associate 2, Grade 9 positions at the Cook Chill Production Center (CCPC).


CCPC is dedicated to producing nutritious meals that meet the dietary and budgetary needs of its clientele, which includes various state and government facilities, as well as non-profit organizations.


The Cook Chill system is designed for the preparation of large volumes of food with an extended shelf life. The incumbent in this role will be responsible for food preparation and maintaining sanitation standards in designated work areas, ensuring compliance with all regulatory requirements.


Key Responsibilities:
- Supervise and collaborate with a team of Culinary Services Associates in production and sanitation tasks.
- Regularly assess the work of team members for adherence to established standards.
- Provide training for team members on necessary procedures and techniques.
- Prepare, cook, chill, and package food items in accordance with health code standards.
- Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of work areas and culinary equipment.
- Disassemble and reassemble food equipment as per manufacturer guidelines.
- Conduct pre-operation and post-operation inspections as per facility protocols.
- Communicate effectively with supervisors to resolve issues in work areas.
- Complete necessary written reports as assigned.
