Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Paraeducator to join our team at Stamford Public Schools. As a Paraeducator, you will play a vital role in supporting students with special needs, working closely with certified teachers to provide individualized instruction and support.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide academic and behavioral support to students with special needs, under the supervision of certified teachers.
  • Assist with data collection and progress monitoring to inform instruction and support.
  • Follow student schedules and seek clarification as needed to ensure smooth transitions and routines.
  • Assist with the handling and operation of equipment and materials in the classroom.
  • Supervise students during emergency drills, assemblies, and other non-classroom activities.
  • Support the implementation of Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) and maintain confidentiality of student information.
  • Foster independence in students through the implementation of independence goals and strategies.
  • Assist with daily living needs, such as feeding and bathroom accommodations.
  • Assist with organization and on-task behavior.
  • Implement behavior intervention plans under the direction of certified staff.
  • Serve as a resource for substitute teachers and provide information about student needs and routines.
  • Assist with the implementation of health care plans and other medical needs.
Requirements
  • Must have a strong understanding of the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) requirements and have passed the ParaPro Assessment, hold an Associate's Degree, or have completed at least 60 credits at an approved college.
  • Must possess or be willing to acquire the skills necessary to support specialized programs for Special Needs students, including support of behavioral plans, strategies for autism or other identified diagnoses, or support for treatments such as ABA or activities of daily living such as feeding and toileting.
  • Experience/training in working with children preferred.
  • Comfort with the use of standard computer applications.
