Introduction

Position Overview

The Facilities Maintenance Technician will engage in various projects and routine upkeep tasks across DelDOT properties. Responsibilities include comprehensive maintenance of buildings and landscapes, covering plumbing, HVAC systems, electrical diagnostics and repairs, carpentry, construction, painting, and more. The selected individual will operate small engine equipment, perform welding and metal work, manage landscaping tasks, and maintain cleanliness in public restrooms and offices. Additionally, this role may involve training and supervising seasonal workers or volunteers.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct preventative, routine, and complex maintenance on both interior and exterior structures, including fixtures and mechanical systems.
  • Execute electrical work, which encompasses modifying and maintaining electrical systems.
  • Oversee restoration and renovation projects for facilities, ensuring efficient use of space through effective design and layout.
  • Advise on the referral of tasks that exceed financial or capability limits to external contractors.
  • Maintain and repair mechanical systems, including compressors, pumps, and HVAC systems.
  • Operate and maintain life safety equipment such as generators and emergency lighting systems.
  • May supervise skilled and semi-skilled personnel in specific tasks or training scenarios.
  • Document work performed, materials utilized, and time allocated to tasks, while managing inventory of supplies.

Qualifications

To be considered for the Facilities Maintenance Technician position, candidates must demonstrate proficiency in the following areas:

  • Possession of a valid Electrician license, either from Delaware or another state that meets Delaware's licensing standards.
  • A minimum of six months of experience in various trades, including plumbing, carpentry, painting, or HVAC.
  • Experience in maintaining records and documentation.
  • Ability to interpret blueprints, schematics, or technical drawings.
  • Skills in estimating project costs, timeframes, and material requirements.
  • Valid Driver's License without restrictions.
